Felt like a heart attack

Recommended Posts

Okay! I hope someone can tell me what this feeling was. Today I was cooking chicken for the family and of course, when I cook, I pick. I have to taste it before I feed it to the kids, right? Anyway, I guess I wasn't paying attention to the chewing. I got this severe pain in my chest, I took a sip of my husbands Pepsi thinking it would make me burp and the feeling would go away, well the pain got worse and lasted about 4-5 minutes, then I burped two or three times and it went away. During those 4-5 minutes, I thought I was having a heart attack, the pain was from my chest into my throat, I felt like I couldn't breath, I broke out in a sweat, it was terrifying.

That is food getting stuck from too big of a bite or from not chewing it enough, when this happens, number one, do not drink with it to wash it down and secondly do NOT drink carbonation like Pepsi to wash it down, it will cause the horrible pain you described. Drinking to wash it odwn will make it feel worse, it is like it is all backing up

This is the feeling you get when you have a PB, it is horrible and terrifying the first time you experience it, I remember very well, You get a look like a deer caught in headlights.

Remember to chew and small bites and slower, picking at food is a hard habit to break after so many years of doing it, but those times you pick can be the worst for us bandsters , we seem to forget about our bands and the rules of chewing and small bites.

I can relate, it's the worst pain, but wash it down with pepsi...owe...that's like slow death. I'm sure you'll never do that again.

Everything I put in my mouth...I think about it first, cause I've learned the hard way.

the nutritionist says she gets calls all the time about people that have done that your not suppose to drink carbonation it will stretch the pouch and gas gets trapped and can't escape easier said than done when you can't breath but its like when something is stuck like a drain and you keep trying to plunger it the pressure gets higher and higher until its goes down or backs up more thats horrible.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
