Recommended Posts

hey there bandsters, was banded 6/26/08 and gettting my first fill tomorrow.....my doc doesn't use a fluroscopy, is this going to be painful? my port spot is only a little tiny bit sore still......can someone give me some insight to what i am in for tomorrow? i have been STARVING....how do they determine how much to fill? i want to NOT be hungry everyday for $15,000 i want this thing to work. lost 14lbs since 6/26/08 and that was mainly cause i was sick after surgery, since i have gotten better only lost 2lbs....i want her to fill it so that i am NOT starving. any advice from others that have had first fills would be awesome!!!!!!!!

I was banded on the 25th of June and had my first fill on August 7. It didn't hurt AT ALL. He numbed the area, which stung but didn't hurt. He put a pillow under my back to sort of 'push' the port up. He felt around for it then did the needle thing. He added 4cc's, although I don't know how big my band is. It was painless. I have some restriction. A whole lot more than before. I've lost 4 more lbs since my fill. :) Good luck!

My doc tried to do it in the office but just could'nt get it...it did not hurt me at all....I then had it under fluroscopy and it was fine...no pain just a little pressure....nothing to it...don't worry like I did...I was scared and now I know I had no reason to be.

Mine were painless. Just the stick and that didn't hurt at all. I didn't have fluoroscopy either. I have had 2 fills now and both were totally pain free. I was like you, I thought it was gonna be a big deal and I worried all night the night before the fill. I got there and it took like 3 minutes from start to fnish. They didn't deaden mine either. You will do great.. Good luck!!!

congrats on having surgery and getting to your first fill. i doubt it will be a painful experience. as you've no doubt read, most fills are pretty uneventful. the doc uses his fingers to feel for your port location and then inserts a needle in the approximate location. it might take a little poking to find your port "sweetspot". it can be a little uncomfortable and if you're at all squeamish or nervous about the pain, you might ask your doc to inject the area with a little lidocaine. it helped me during my first few fills.

good luck and don't worry!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
