Banded 8/8 with aches and pains

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

I was just banded Friday and was wondering if anyone else has experienced a sore neck/back (in addition to general belly pain). I got my period the day before banding, so I know that doesn't help with the mix. Oh well. I also have some pain when I take really big breaths. After reading a lot of other posts, I assume most of this will go away soon. Any tips would be appreciated!

sounds to me like time will do the healing. The breathing is different after any operation. Didn't they give you one of those breathing tools in the hospital? It's an exerciser type thing for your lungs.

Congrats on being Banded!

The shoulder pain is common after surgery, it is the gas from the surgery. Make sure you are up and moving as much as you can. Take your pain meds as needed and stay in front of the pain, don't wait until you are over the top to take it. Your body needs to heal!

They had me do deep breathing and and inhaling as much air as possible to help clear the lungs, with the little sucking machine. They also had me cough, a deep cough, to help clear the lungs too.

Do what is comfortable for you, keep moving and keep sipping. You will feel better each day!

I did not get one of the breathing things from the hospital, but I've been taking deep breaths and holding them. As for the gas...I don't think I've ever burped this much in my life! :-) Thanks for the responses!

The neck and back pain will go away. I think mine took about 10 days to go away for the neck and a little bit longer for the back, which really hurt when I would sit for longer than 5-7 minutes.

As someone else mentioned, make sure you are taking your pain meds to keep on top of the pain. Your body heals better and quicker if you aren't dealing with the pain.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
