Reflux!! From being too tight. Not that you have too much fill, necessarily, but maybe because the area is swollen from being filled. No chicken or cheese, just liquids or very soft mushies for another day or two until it settles down. Then try out your food.

24 hours of liquids after fills, just to be safe. I know you said you got your fill yesterday, and you had Soup last night and got the heartburn. Was it Tomato Soup?

Maybe you just need a bit longer, or maybe you are too tight? Try starting out at square one after surgery, and move through your food stages by the day (Clear Liquids, full liquids, soft mushies, full mushies, then food...you know)

Tums gives good temporary relief.

Do a little search on Esophogitis, which is what reflux will turn into if it continues. It's like a constant throat burning. Yuck.

Here's what happened to me. I had my surgery and was fine, then drank a little coffee, fine, then added in V-8 juice and started getting irritated. This was day 4-5, so I thought it was normal and didn't worry. Well, I PB'd on Jello and it all went downhill from there. By the end of week 1 I couldn't swallow my own spit. It was normal swelling post-surgery that got worse because I didn't slow down. I just plowed through the recovery too fast. One irritant created another and round and round till I was swollen shut. 3 bags of Fluid at the hospital later, I start back over again and this time I take it REALLLLYYY slow. all is fine now.

Just slow down a bit and treat your banded area like it's very delicate. I haven't had a fill yet, but I'd suspect if it doesn't get better you may need a small unfill. But just pretend it's re-swollen from the fill and see how it goes.

Take the Tums, too. Gas-X doesn't do anything for the reflux. At least for me. The tums is an antacid.

Prilosec helps me, I don't get heartburn all the time, about 4 times a week. Dr. McKeen prescribed Prilosec in pakage form that you mix with 2 tlbs of Water. He said I don't have to take it every day, just when I need it. But not more than once a day. I havn't had a fill yet, so I don't have an unfill option.

If after a few days you still get bad heartburn, you may need an unfill. A tiny bit can make the biggest difference.

Blonde, it could be the coffee, it's very acidic. I am able to drink coffe fine now so don't freak out about having to give it up, just for a little while until the swelling goes down. I forgot how newly banded you are...seems like it was a month ago when you saw Kuri but I think it was 2 weeks ago? Kuri told me to take Prilosec, just like Vera said and I did, it worked great on the reflux/heartburn. Now I have switched to my hubby's Zantac. In generic form it is TONS less expensive and I take 2 but only when I need it. I haven't had to take in in almost 2 weeks I think. Other than the coffe are you doing okay?

all right Sheri, keep us posted. I hope that works well for you and you can keep that fill and have some great restriction!

I was banded on the 18th of may. I have totally given up coffee, and diet drinks... Those are big accomplishments for me. I was a Diet Dr. Pepper Hoochie, I drank them all day long. I haven't had much heartburn, other than coffee at the beginning. Since I've already given it up, I'm going just stay away from it.

But, I've been pretty good the last two days, finally no back pain..... After 2 acupuncture treatments and about 3 chiropractor visits.

Keep us posted Sheri, I still have to have a fill, and I'm absorbing all the info I can.

I got the answer here asked when you were filled.

I was filled yesterday as well and I was on Clear Liquids the rest of the day. I get to start solids today so maybe like Paula says stay on liquids for a bit longer or try some previcid or Zantac.

How much was your fill?

I just had my surgery on August 12th; they want me to only eat liqids; they definitely said no Jello or pudding; it has to be liquids only! I have had very bad heart burn; It's starting to get better. I'm hungry, but to scared to cheat; so liquids it is.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
