Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my husbands and mine first duty station and we are stationed in schweinfurt germany. We like it here so much we have extended till 2010. My husband is prior air force and i believe he was stationed in buloxie MS. Where have you all been stationed and how did you like each place? We will have to pick a new duty station after he comes back from one more tour of Iraq so id like to hear your thoughts. He wants Ft. Lewis in Washington we hear its the best post ever. but i would like ft. leanord wood in missouri because it is closer to both of our families. Let me hear from you all. and have a great day.

We have been at Ft Campbell, since his unit (160th) is there. I missed out on going to Germany (we have been married for 10 yrs and his ex got that trip). Now that my husband has retired, we have decided to stay here (actually Clarksville, TN).

94-95 Fort Campbell, KY (met and married there)

95-98 Hohenfels, Germany

98-00 Fort Benning, GA

00-04 Babenhausen, Germany

04-06 Fort Campbell, KY

06-current Fort Hood, TX

We are ssssssoooooo ready to get back to Germany, but with this next duty station possibly being his last, I want to go somewhere we haven't been if we can't get Germany.

We're AF so it probably won't help your choices much:-)

Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX - Oct 1999-July 2002

RAF Lakenheath, UK - July 2002-July 2005

Eglin AFB, Fort Walton Beach, FL - July 2005-present

All bases have had their pros on cons but I enjoyed living in each place. I only wish the family support at Lakenheath would have been better, especially since it is an overseas base.

Ft. Hood, and Ft. Hood......sorry, not much help. I can tell you that you probably don't want to come here though, it's a small town but there are way too many people squeezed into it. It's a pain to even go anywhere, and EVERYONE is rude! We have been here for over five years now, and I hated it the first few years. The only reason that I don't mind now is because I have made some really great friends here and I have a life here now.

Gina,

I thought I was the only one who thought most everyone here was rude! Not to mention, they don't know how to freaking drive ! Yield signs are there for a reason, when it is on YOUR side of the street, you yield to ME, when it is on MY side, I yield to you :w00t:.

I do like it here, I stay in my little housing area, visit with my neighbors, go to the occasional Hail and Farewell, and every now and then go to an FRG meeting. I will be working again soon, so time should go by a bit quicker (hopefully) and we can leave from here after this next deployment (hopefully ).

That response made me laugh! We need to meet up one day!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
