Any others with a BROKEN BAND???

Recommended Posts

I have had an Inamed 10cc band in for 1 year, but 6 weeks ago I started to have"tightening" and 4 weeks ago I suddenly could eat anything and didn't feel banded at all. After confirming with Fluoroscopy, it turns out the tubing has broken away from the rest of the band and is flapping loose. I've gained about 15 lb. and am going for new band in a week. I'm finding this tremendously depressing and frustrating, and also am worried the new one won't work as wellas the old one did, or that I've lost some of the strength and enthusiasm I had with my original surgery. Anyone out there go through a similar experience, particularly with the Inamed band? I really could use some help!

Not a long weekend for all us Canadians!

I can't say I have had anything close to the experince you have but best wishes and be confident that the band will work just as well as your previous one. Take care and best of luck!

I haven't had this problem. But I wanted to know if you have any ideal on how the band broken. Is it just from normal wear and tear of the band?? Will insurance cover the replacement?

By the way, I think you will do just as good on this band as you did with the old one. By the looks of your scale you have done great in one year. I look forward to reaching the goal you have already reached myself.

OMG, my Inamed Band broke too. Right at 11 months after being place, it suddenly wouldn't hold any Fluid, suddenly no restriction. I had to pay to have it removed and replaced. Inamed refused to pay anything, accepted no responsibility.

Wow, I have been looking for someone else with a defective Inamed Band. Mine cracked after about 11 months of working well. I had to have it removed and replaced. Is Inamed paying for your replacement surgery? They refused to do anything for me. I was self pay both times.

I'll repeat what I replied to another post on post-surgery who was self pay and had to replace a defective band. You wouldn't put up with a brand new car that quit working after 11 months and just pay for a new one. Of course Inamed is going to say they have no responsibility. But you have rights. Contact your state's consumer protection agency and see what they say. Then contact an attorney who specializes in defective products. Even if you paid for new one yourself you can try to get your money back. Many attorneys will get paid only if you win. Find one. Don't let these big companies who make tons of money get away with this. Trust me, they will settle with you before you even get to court. Do you think they want their product slammed all over the internet? Or if you don't want to get an attorney you can file a suit in small claims court (the amount you can sue for varies from state to state, so check).

I'm in COMPLETE agrreement with Cleo's Mom....AND her cats!

Go after Inamed. Push very, very hard. Don't back down.

They certainly do NOT want their name sullied on the Internet, but sometimes that's what ya gotta do to make them stand behind their "product".

When I began having big problems with my band, my surgeon didn't have the time to see me. I had to threaten him, and the hospital, with a lawsuit until they were able to "make time".

So, go after them. Actually, I think it would be nice to have a site or a forum that would "name and shame" hack Doctors (like my first one) and companies like Inamed that won't back their products and services.

Keep us posted on your course of action, and what the results are!

Hi my Inamed band tubing also came apart after one year. I am going in for repair surgery on 3/12/09. My insurance is covering the repair. since my tubing came apart I have sudden onsets of severe sharp pains in my lower abdomen. I have been checked out by my family med. dr. and my gynecologist and they found nothing else wrong with me so I am assuming this pain is coming from the band tubing that is just dangling inside of me.

wow that is crazyy that so many have had the same experience. I deffinantly think that you should file a suit considering that this isn't an isolated event. You should not have to pay for the replacement, that is rediculous!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
