Hi, I have been lurking and reading here for awhile and figured I would join the fun. I am three weeks pre-op, on the pre-op diet. I am having surgery on August 19th, with Dr. Kuri, in Tijuana. I am doing very well on the pre-op diet, it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

I am very excitied about the whole process. I finally feel like I have found the thing that can help me be successful.

I look forward to joining in and being part of this great support system here.

Welcome! I'm HildaM. I subscribed to this forum about a month ago. I get really good feedback and information on this forum. We all share our goals and our day to day experiences with the band. I had my surgery done in Juarez and it went great. I was afraid at first because I've heard bad things about having surgery out of the USA, but I had a good experience . The hospital was very nice everyone was so friendly with me. I felt like if I was in a 5 star hotel.

I haven't lost any weight I'm still at the same weight when I had surgery. What happened is that when I was on liquids I lost a few pounds and then when I started solids I gained it all back. I don't worry about it that much because my doctor told me that the first six weeks it's what they call the healing time, and that band is empty. After the first fill then that's when the band starts doing its part.

Good luck to you on your big day!!!! Try the Atkins diet it works.

Hi,

I am having my band done by Dr. Lopez on Aug 5th (one day before my birthday) great present right?

I am excited. The part that will be hard will be waiting 6 weeks for a fill. I hope that goes by pretty quick.

Do you have any advice?

Thanks,

Mary

Wow Mary 3 days left, Good luck!

How have you decided to handle your fills? I could only find one doctor here that would take me on and he is quite expensive. I think I might keep going back to Mexico for my fills. My Dad lives in San Diego so I can visit with him and run over the boarder for a fill.

Hi,

I plan on using Fill Centers of America in Georgia. Do you have any where you live? They take Mexico patients.

Hello! I am new as well - my first post actually! I am in the process of getting my financing together and will be going to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I qualify in the US, but my insurance won't pay b/c I haven't worked at my job for 3 years (huh?!) - oh well! So my mom is going to go with me. Hopefully i'm looking at just before Thanksgiving.

I'm excited about it, but it will make me deal with my food issues - but it will be great.

Dr. Ortiz and his crew have a list of doctors they work with in the US and there is one that I can go to near my house - I would ask your doctor and see if they have any arrangements like that. I have no fill centers near me so that is what I have to do.

I look forward to utilizing this site!

Howdy. I start my pre-op diet tomorrow. My surgery is on the 14th and I am excited too. Not real excited about the pre-op diet - but it will end. Hopefully we will be able to support each other - as I am a momma of 3 also.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
