Don't be scared, the more research you do the more comfortable you'll become. Still, this is a personal decision only you can make. I'm also from Michigan (St. Joseph) which is in SW michigan. Where are you from, if you're in the area, I can suggest a doc which has done over 4000 bypass, and 700 lapbands. I was just banded by him.

OMG! I am from Baroda Michigan! I would love to know the name of your doctor. That is where I am at now - finding a doctor. Any other help and suggestions you may have will be appreciated also! And Gabby, sounds like you and I are in the same place! We can do this - together!

Sure, his name is Michael Schuhknecht (pernounced shuknick). He's with the Lakeland Comprehensive Weight Loss Center. He's real demanding about following pre op stuff to approve surgery, but he's very good. He is originally from this area, was the head of bariatric surgery at NYU, and then St. Johns in Detroit and is one of the most experienced in the country. He's come back here to try to retire, and he's training other surgeons here now so get him while you can. His number is 877-HOPE858. Good luck, and keep us posted. Small world huh!!

I'm Michigan as well (Midland/Bay City/Saginaw) and am working with Hurley Bariatric in Flint. My experience has been very positive. They've been very friendly, professional and efficient. They've walked me through the entire process. My Lap-Band surgery is scheduled for Tuesday Jan 20 and I'm very excited! Good luck to you!

Hi singledad, I don't know if you're still on this site but I am also from St. Joe. I had my sleeve surgery done by Dr. Schuhknecht on September 22nd, 2015.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
