I live in Chicago and i went to MIBC for my surgery i paid 15,000 for my surgery but i have a year of free fills... I know alot of people on this site went to Mexico for there surgery but i would never do it. I am a proud Mexican but i dont trust the doctors over there. I know i paid more for my surgery but i feel safer with having surgery in the U.S.

Hi. I had the Lap Band surgery 7-10-2006. I have now lost 40 pounds. I am so excited to lose more weight! I am currently at 3.5 cc's. I go for my next fill this week. I am finding it harder to eat anything. It is so strange that something I ate yesterday, I simply can't tolerate today.

What's worse, is the food that is the easiest for me to eat, is the one that the doctor tells me to stay away from----chocolate. I had a bad month in December with all the Christmas candy, i found myself eating a whole bag of candy cane kisses in 3 days. Absolutely no nausea or vomiting with chocolate.

I am hoping to learn of other people's experiences with the band. My goal is to lose 120 pounds, which makes me 1/3 of the way in terms of pounds lost and the amount of Fluid in my band. My doctor told me the band will hold up to 10 cc's.

Is there anyone who is at the same level of Fluid? would like to exchange info on experiences.

Thanks!

I was quoted a price of $10,600--this includes 4 fills. any fills after that will cost $150 each. I was pretty excited about this price as I thought it would be much higher. The lady I spoke to told me that she had a patient go to TJ because it was 'cheaper' and she didn't want to wait for a surgery date--she only saved $900 because she didn't realize the price in TJ didn't included air fare. And then she told me that in my area, only one doctor would touch an out of the US band and he was 2 hours away! Good Luck!

I haven't gotten it done yet, just spoke with the doctor's office and financial lady. This is at AGH, in Pittsburgh, Dr. colella, head of bariatric surgery there. When she told me the price I was astonished and asked her what the hidden costs were--here is the breakdown she gave me:

the Band/port/4 adjustments: $4346

Physicians fee: $2310

Hospital fee:$3000

Anesthesia: $950

She also said that if there were any problems and I had to stay in the hospital that my costs would be discounted 50%. They take cash/check/charge. :clap2:

I went with Dr. Huacuz in TJ. He charged me $7,000. It included all the pre-surgery test (including lab), 2 nights at the hospital for me and a support person, and transportation to and from San Diego Airport. I was very happy.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
