Hi,

My name is Chris. I am 38 and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon. I was banded on 8/27/08. I live in Portland with my two cats Max and Lulu. I drive a Honda named Griffith and have a GPS named Claudia. Haven't come up for a name for the band yet, but seriously, if it is going to be in me for life, I can't just call it "the band!"

I have a really wicked sense of humor...just ask the doctors when I painted my toenails bright green with Rhinestones before my surgery so that if I died, the guy at the Morgue could go home that night and say, "Stella! You are NEVER going to believe this! I toe tagged a girl with bright green toes today!" Okay...I did take a picture...it couldn't be helped and the opportunity arose.

I'm recovering well except that I am off of my antidepressants because they are too big to take and they are time released so I can't really open them and sprinkle them over my god awful Protein drink! I am struggling emotionally kind of like post partumish...I am happy as hell that I got the band, but if I have one more break down I am seriously going to have to do something drastic like...like....make towers out of the 1 oz cups I stole from the hospital...I am a scrapbooker, artist, photographer...there is a reason for my debauchery.

I am glad that this board exists. I can't explain this to my friends and family although they are pleased as punch for me. I am glad there are folks who know exactly what trying to puree a cow for the required 75 grams of protein (YES I AM VERY VERY TALL). Seriously, do you KNOW how much protein that is???? UGH!

Thank for inviting me to introduce myself...sorry you asked now aren't you????

Chris

Hi Chris!

It's great that you have family support and you will get a lot of support here too. I was banded on the 26th and have been on here every day since then. I love a person with a sense of humor and I'm sure everyone will enjoy it.

Looks like we have some hobbies in common. I love to scrapbook and am constantly taking pictures I have not not had time to scrap lately since I'm in school and sure do miss it.

Welcome and I'll see ya around.

Hello everyone...

I'm older than most of you but feel as young inside.

I was banded on the 29th of August.I had been waiting for only 7 months.

I live in Quebec Canada so things are a little less complicated here to have the surgery.

I have 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren who are a gift from life itself.

I'm a nurse who is still working, but i'm no longer in a hospital but in a goverment service where people can call for help with their health problems.

I've had a weight problem that started in my late twenties and just got worse with time.

No one else in my family is overweight.

Have been married for 39 years to the same man and plan on having another 30 with him.

I suffer from degenerative arthritis and have had both my knees replaced , would like them to last as long as possible so I had to do something.

So far everything is going o.k. but I'm a little anxious about the future and how it will be living with a band.

Also I need to start moving more if I want to lose the weight and that is a challenge for me.

I,m counting on support from others like me to be able to make this work.

Thank you for taking the time to read my long dissertation :)

Hey Donna,

Glad to meet you...I think I must be feeling better as I spent about 45 minutes stacking those stupid 1 oz cups that I pilfered from the hospital in various towers and took pictures. Either that or I am TOTALLY BORED!

I feel like I am in confession...I also drank coffee...but it was seriously the no calorie, no nothing cup O joe not the frilly Starbucks foo foo drink...:) I swear I will makeup for it...I will drink an extra gallon of Crystal Light...honest.

I even got my antidepressants down today. I figured one more day of my no reason break downs and my cats were going to pack up and move out!

I started a scrabook in December regarding the process. If they would have let me, I would have requested my friend take pictures in the operating room. The folks in radiology gave me a polaroid of my right caratid artery for my scrapbook. (I had to have a vena cava filter inserted before the surgery) It was hilarious!

Anyway...gotta get to writing a court report.

Thanks for your response.

Take care,

Chris:smile:

OMG your post was just what i needed tonight! i love your wicked sense of humor!! tonight was a bad night...super bad headache...stupid classes that run right after work into the late evening...no way to puree a cow at 9pm. thanks for posting!! i too agree that it's wonderful having a group of people that really understand what we're all going through. hope to see you around the board!

Bad days seriously suck! Sorry you had one. I do not recommend pureed cow at any time quite frankly. I did get a recipe from someone else for a Protein Shake that I can almost tolerate and is not the consistency of paper mache paste. It involves Peanut Butter and anything that involves peanut butter rocks! Okay maybe not peanut butter and smashed turnips, but I am not ruling it out.

What kind of class are you taking? I am thinking about taking a photography class just so I can learn new techniques to annoy everyone around me much more. People figure it out...either avoid me or just let me take the dangnab picture already!

Well I suppose I should go try to do something productive. Like...well...floss or clean the bathroom or something. I am opting for flossing though I think. Do you think people actually floss their cats? Or brush maybe? If I am that bored maybe it is time to go back to work.

Take care,

Chris:thumbup:

Hiya!

You know I bet your grandchildren would love it if you got a Wii. I am so not kidding. Everyone loves me more since I got a Wii...and additionally, it gets you moving...since I can't really exercise at the gym right now, I have taken full advantage of the Wii...I can bowl, play tennis and other things that get me moving a little more than just sitting here trying to decide if I can puree bologna...

Glad to meet you!

Glad you are here!

Take care, Chris

PS...I am Canadian too...although I live in the States now...but if I say Chesterfield and tuke...you'll know what I mean! :)

Hi neomie and welcome! You will get lots of support here so anytime you need it you know where to come!

Moving around is a challenge for me right now also. Any free time I have I spend studying or doing odd and end things around the house (I guess I move a little there).

How have you been feeling since the band?

I agree with you about those grandbabies, I have one granddaughter and she is the light of my life!

So how sad is it that I've had my Wii, and Fit (!) sitting on my mantle for 2 weeks  and haven't even taken them out of the box. Now THAT'S a get-off-yer-fat-ass-already project if I ever heard of one!

I'll bet if you puree bologna it would taste quite a bit like the completely mascerated vienna sausages that I tried :cool2:

Rachelle, has your doctor suggested any strategies for counteracting the wear on your kidneys that will come with having a protein-heavy diet? I realize that we've been eating that Protein all along, but we've always had other stuff to balance it. I'm curious (and nosey too!)

ARRRRGGGGGGGGG the pressure...okay. I will see if I can attach a beautiful picture of my pilfered cup tower...

I call it the tower of power...or what to do when you are bored out of your skull. I am sure my neighbors are whispering behind their hands about that seemingly nice (read deranged) neighbor piling plastic cups onto her balcony railing.

Hope this works...if not oh holy computer geek...please explain how to do it...in social work steps...which means asking the computer how it feels a lot of the time.

Take care,

Chris

Chris,

Your cup tower looks awesome. Great job. Oh and by the way, I made sure I had a pedicure and a full set of french manicure painted fingernails just incase I died the day of surgery. My family thought I was crazy, which is true. Otherwise, I wouldn't be taking Cymbalta. LOL I noticed you said something about your anti-depressants being time release, mine are too so what I do is open them up and dump them in my mouth and quickly take a drink of Water. I can't mix it into my food. It's just nasty. Even though they are time release, they seem to still be working.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
