LapBand 07/07/08-Got Fill; Still hungry???

Recommended Posts

:blush:Hello Everyone!

I finall got the lap band on the 7th of July, 2008. I lost 15 pounds on my own by the day of surgery. Started at 323 and on the day of surgery, I was at 308. :thumbup:Ok....so I'm feeling great and by that Friday after surgery, I was up and about doing my Holy Ghost Ho-down in my garage (light workout). So then I find out that the banding was only placed on my stomach, but not tightened? Why did my hair stylist tell me that???? So it makes sense and explained why I was actually feeling hunger pangs. Ok...today is the 24th and I made it to my first fill. That prick was pretty painful....oooouch! Survived it though. Ok...so why was I able to eat an entire Southwest salad from McDonalds and a few fries???? Of course the entire day, all I had was 2 yogurts. One at Breakfast and one at lunch. What is up with that? I paid out of pocket 15k for this surgery like many of you "Against All Odds" and plenty of you can do it on your own. So this can't be normal. I was getting discouraged because when I got on the scale today, I weighed 302. The doctor's office weighed me in from my first appt at 320. I have Scott & White insurance so when I went for my blood work, they weighed me in at 323. So of course, I went w/that weight. So in all reality, all I've lost after surgery without the band being tightened is 6 pounds in 17 days with lots of walking:whatchutalkingabout? Seems like I should have really lost more than that? Of course my doctor did tell me that I probably won't feel the affects of the fill til 1 or 2 days out. I sure hope so. Anyone else experience this phenomenon???? Pleazzze...for the sake of 15,000.00, please enlighten me!!!!:smile2:

hi Ecolvin

Well, I was banded on Jan 23 and didn't have very much restriction until my 4th fill...Not even that it was wonderful...5th fill was wonderful. In have 7.5 cc's in a 10cc band. Now, I am very restricted as long as I follow the rules of Protein first, veggie next and starch if there's room (usually there isn't). You'll get there!!

Regards,

Alfie

Chin up! I know how you feel. I'm also self pay and feel like i should already be losing 10-20 lbs already. That's great that you already have your first fill. You are on your way. I was band on 6/6/08 and only had my first fill yesterday. Today I've only feel some restriction. I was not put on a pre-op diet so so far I've only lost 10lbs since being banded and 4 of those pounds were lost only because I got the flu:-). I know I've read so many blogs about people losing weight so quickly but it'll take time. How much did your doc fill you with on your first fill?

I just gotten my first fill on Monday at 2cc, and I'm 28days out. The 7 day of liquids after the fill only lasted 2days with me. Instead I have a protien shake for breakfast. Then eat really soft protiens for lunch and dinner. I'm not all that restricted I just make sure I eat from a small plate. I guess the point I'm trying to make if you feel hungry just go for the protiens and other healthy alternatives. I can't wait to get to the "sweet spot"!

My Surgeon had put 4cc in to start and was way to tight could not breath or even sips of Water it was horible I thought what did I do to myself!! So I had to go in and get unfilled he took everything out. For a few days I felt much beter and could eat soft foods but know that I have healed I have no restriction at all and have been very hungry and can eat almost anything. Anyway I go in tomarrow and hopefully he will give me a fill because Im afraid Im on my way back to gaing weight Good luck with your fill hopefully this will help not being able to eat just like before.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
