Those of us that are on the pre-op diet, can you give me an idea of how your eating has been going. Mine is below.

Morning- Atkins Cafe Carmel shake and 1 Liter of Water

Lunch- 1 Sauage Link and 1 Cup of Grapes

Afternoon- 1 Atkins Shake and 1 Liter of Water

Dinner- Lean chicken or beef, veggie or salad

Dessert- SF popsicle

I kind of feel like I am eating too much. Any thoughts?

Southerngirl,

It's been a while, but I was on a 2 wk pre-op diet.

1st 2 days

slimfast-Breakfast

slimfast-lunch

slimfast-dinner

H2O, crystal light

3rd day I could add a salad (no meat) with low cal dressing. It took the place of a slimfast (lunch OR dinner). I could have sf popscles (sp) and sf Jello, sf pudding. I did this for 2 wks. Boy, was I ever happy to get to that 3rd day to eat a salad instead of that awful "slimefast" (yes, I meant to spell it that way,LOL) I had my salad for dinner and you should have seen my plate-----very large, I never knew salads tasted so good.

Here's wishing you the best.

Be blessed

I have read about the pe-op diets that some people have to do before surgery. My docs office did not mention one when they scheduled by surgery. Actually y preop visit is not until the friday before my surgery (surgery in on a tues.) I am thinking, from what I have read that I will have to do a 24 hr diet.

Why is it that some docs require different lengths to their pre-op diets?

I don't have my dr.'s paper work with me, but I recall it saying in it, that the preop diet was to deplete gylocgen stores or whatever.

For me I was on a 3 days preop diet. However, I was not very good at all considering my first preop diet day was my b-day. But I did try. I don't had lunch and dinner that day. On Tuesday and Wed, I tryed to stay only on liquids throughout the day, but did have a tv dinner for dinner.

Wow AprilApple, that's a pretty far off surgery date. Was that on purpose?

I have been sick since Saturday with what I thought was a flu but I think it is my body going through a withdrawel from the sugar, bread, etc. I have been on liquid since Saturday straight. No solid food, not even fruit. So I have been exsisting on Water and diet sprite to calm my tummy. Everything seems to make me nauseated. I hope this will pass soon.

My doctor said that the pre op diet varies from patient to patient and that some people including surgeons compare the requirements for Gastric Bypass to lap band. The Gastric Bypass requires a minimum of 2 weeks pre op liquid only diet to help remove fatty deposits from the liver because the surgeon must go under the liver for the bypass operation. The lap band requires manuevering under the liver as well so a pre op diet to reduce 10 lbs -i.e. liquid diet prior to lapband is all that is really required, but the surgeory can still be performed without it. It just makes it easier on the doctor and patient if there is at least a 10lb pre surgeory weight loss to deflate the liver by reducing fat.

My surgeon said that most bariatric surgeons perform both bypass and lap band and stick with one platform to keep things simple, so they put all patients on the bypass preop plan.

I actually started my 2 week pre-op diet today. I am able to eat 1-2 healthy meals which can include any lean meats, and all the vegetables I want besides potatoes and carrots. I have to drink at least two 10oz servings of the Myocel Protein shake (OMG that mess is nasty:eek:) And they want me to drink a lot of Water...I mix Crystal Light with mine.

I can't have any sugar, carbs, carbonated drinks, fried foods, any fats like butter and so forth.

So far today this is what I had:

-10oz vanilla Myocel shake...EWW!!!

-20oz of Water with grape crystal light

-Big salad with just lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, and purple cabbage for lunch

-10oz vanilla Myocel shake again...Double EWW!!!

-20oz of water with raspberry lemonade crystal light.

-10oz water

-cheese stick for a snack

-Grill chicken with broccoli for dinner

But ohh I'm craving a taco from Taco Bell:drool:

Sweetpea our diet sounds the same. I just do not have much of desire to eat very much, which is the same thing that happened when I was doing Atkins. Once my body reached ketosis, my appetite is gone!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
