Okay,

Now I'm really confused. I've been on a plateau for 3 months now. I haven't lost one pound. I haven't gained either, so that's a good thing. I've had a fill. No help, and I even feel restriction. I had it a month ago and have even PB'd 3 times since then. So I know it's working. I hadn't up to that point. So, my doc says to give him a week food diary so he can analyze it. Done. Haven't heard back from him yet. I saw that Mydailyplate can help you analyze what you're eating by counting calories. I don't necessarily believe in this, as the band shouldn't be a strict "diet" for the rest of your life. It's a change in attitude towards food, bad habits and controlling portions. My doctor agrees. So I look at what I'm eating. I eat REALLY healthy. My calories for the week wiggled between 1060 and 1180. Perfect. I couldn't see a problem. I exercise vigorously for an hour 3X a week. (Water aerobics) I've lost inches and have gained muscle, but NOT three months worth........ What is the deal? I was SO CONVINCED that I was eating to many calories and needed to cut back. That does not seem to be the case. I'm at a loss now.... HELP:sad:

If I drop below 60g of Protein per day, I stop losing.

If I don't drink at least 100 oz Water per day, I stop losing.

If I don't have one day a week that my calorie level is totally different than the other six days (200-300 cal higher or lower than my typical day, I stop losing.

I've seen some people say they don't lose if they stay below 1000, 1200, or 1500. I know when I was on pre-lapband diets if I dropped my daily calories below 1800 I wouldn't lose - my body hung onto all it's fat, presumably thinking it was starvation time.

You're already exercising - good for you! - but you could try to change up your exercise routine. Maybe add a little time with the barbells or swim some laps (one fast, two slow?) or do a higher level of intensity during your Water aerobics.

Oh, and just think about your last pre-band plateau. I know the last time I dieted and hit a plateau I was gaining pounds back within a week.

By contrast, during my recent 6 week post-band plateau I lost and gained the same 3 pounds multiple times, but because of the restriction of the band I didn't lose hope and eat, eat, eat my way out of the plateau and into another weight gain.

So yea, our bands are working the way they're supposed to - helping us lose and keeping our place when we're not losing :-)

I believe in dailyplate.. I log everything. Once I plateau I try to go back to the menus that were working. I havent gained anything back I just have breaks here and there where I don't lose anything. I can never let my calories drop or I don't lose, too little Water, too little Protein and I dont lose.

Bandster rules are not a diet they are a healthy lifestyle change.

Elaine - to get that last 5 pounds off quickly, eat Protein only for 2 days, then on day 3, add vegetables and fruits.

If you are only eating 1100 calories per week, you are not eating enough and have now put your body inot starvation mode. This means that since your are not getting the nutrition you need, your body is ow holding onto the fat it has stored in order to survive. Until you get yourself up to a normal calorie intake, you will not see weight loss.

If you are only eating 1100 calories per week, you are not eating enough and have now put your body inot starvation mode. This means that since your are not getting the nutrition you need, your body is ow holding onto the fat it has stored in order to survive. Until you get yourself up to a normal calorie intake, you will not see weight loss.

I'm pretty sure she was averaging out her calories and suggesting this is what she was eating daily.

I stayed at 600 calories a day and never had a major plateau. Starvation mode is a myth, your body doesn't hang on to anything.

Starvation mode isnt a myth, its a fact. I had spoken to many doctors about this. Your body uses its fat stores to hold on to. What is a myth is that starving yourself will help you lose weight. You need to comsume enough calories in order to survive and enough to burn off and still stay healthy. Also, kicking up and mixing up the exercise routine would help this person, otherwise it might be something else, in which case she might want to see her doctor or a specialist, such as an endicronologist.

Believe it or not, at times when I had hit a plateau in the past (eating well, exercising regularly), I would take a Saturday or so and bump my caloric intake. Not horrendously, but say if you're getting an average of 1200 a day, bump one day to 1800 or 2000. It was amazing how the body would react to that and de-plateau. And/or change up your workout routine.

The problem is, our bodies get used to the rote. It gets used to the calories and workouts we give it. Unless you shake things up, it just adapts. Usually the answer is not lessening your caloric intake (because yes, the body will go into "survival mode") but to increase it or really push your workout routine. Make sure your exercise is varied and not always the same thing.

We disagree. The human body does not think, it does not fear a lack of calories. Bottom line, the more you eat the more you have to burn.

I've talked to a lot of doctors, I've done a lot of research and it differs from your studies.

I stayed at 600 calories daily and never hit a plateau and got to goal. Never went into starvation mode.

If starvation mode was anything short of a myth little children starving to death in Africa would be pudgy. As my doc says, he's yet to meet an obese person in starvation mode but he has met little Mexican children in starvation mode and they are dying.

No, I knew what you meant. I was comparing what you do vs. the claim of starvation mode. One day is one thing, daily is a whole different ball game.

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
