Hi Everyone I'm from the Pacfic Northwest. I'm just starting the process of getting the Lap Band. I've been looking into this procedure for awhile, but some recent changes in insurance gave me the green light. I work for AT&T (formerly Cingular(formerly AT&T Wireless(Formerly McCaw) and this year we moved into the AT&T Choice Plan (United Health Care) which covers WLS after their big deductable. The prior year plan didn't cover it. I'm also retired navy and will be using TRICARE Standard which came out earlier this year approving Lap Band retro active to last year.

I've already attended the seminar and had a EGD and colonoscopy done at the same time. See the doctor in couple days for the results. I haven't even started the insurance process. Is there anyone out there has dealt with the United Healthcare/Tricare combination

werice55, I just wanted to welcome you to the boards. I really can't help you with the combination insurance deal--I can say that I have United Healthcare and it was a breeze with them.

Hello! I'm a hairdresser from NJ who has been battling the bulge since I was 9.(I'm 41 now). I weigh about 280 at 5'8" but am an avid excerciser (step aroebics, weight training, walking etc.)and have managed to stay a size 18 (which i don't totally hate). I just started the process for getting lap banding because unfortunately I have a health issue that I need to loose over 100lbs. My question is can you really excercise as hard as you want or am use too. As crazy as it sounds I really enjoy working out. It helps me not only physically but mentally.

Puju10,

There is no reason why you would be unable to continue with your exercise once you are healed from surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
