Hi Everyone,

I just attended my lap band meeting and have been contacted by the financial office that my insurance will not cover the procedure unless I prove I have had a BMI of over 40 for the past 2 years. I have not, always been heavy, but not over 40 BMI for two years at a time. So... going to do it without insurance covering it. What do you think? Totally worth it in my opinion. My health is worth the money... Anyone else going to do this paying on their own?? Anything else I need to know for those of you who have gone through this? I am so excited to re-start my life, and finally have some CONTROL....

Welcome to the boards! I've just begun the process myself, so can't offer you any advice on self paying. From everything i've read, it does seem a small price to pay for the benefits you will reap!

Good luck!

Pat

Have you been over a 40 BMI for these past 2 years?

How you can prove it is threw your medical chart at your primary doctors office.

That is if you let them weigh you when you went in.

I usually didn't lol to embarrased I guess. But if you did that may be the proof you need and also a note from your primary.

Call the insurance campany and see what they need as proof before you go and do self pay. its worth a shot. You never know your primamry may have what you need to get approval.

My insurance was not going to cover me becasue my BMI was below 40 but I have medical conditions that put me right threw to approval.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Trish

Hi! I also have a BMI lower than 40, but either way, my insurance won't cover weight loss surgery. I'll be going to Mexico for mine. I actually just talked to someone in Mexico about the process, but I have a lot of research left. I imagine my next step will be calling a fill dr here in Utah since I am not sure I'll want to go to Mexico for all the fills. I guess so I can get on his patient list? I don't know what steps I need to do, actually lol. See, I have a lot of research left

Good luck!!! ;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
