My incisions were glued by my surgeon no stitches or staples. Today I woke up the glue is soft like its slowly wearing away and the incisions burn and hurt like they will pop open. Is this normal for anyone else? Im scared to move and I know I need to be walking so I dont get blood clots. Any info is helpfull :scared2: Thanks

Mine we're glued but had dressings put over them... I only removed the dressings yesterday.. day 6 post op....... i felt lke mine were coming open but thankfully couldnt see it! I think the glue is stronger than you think & the incisions are healing from the inside out so are probably further advanced in the healing process than you think.

You should be fine if you are careful... just dont over stretch or do anything strenuous.

Hi I am 5 days post op. I had a little worry about one of my incisions yesterday and called the doc. One of them was spreading past the steri-stip and it was a little oozy looking. I went to see him last night and he said it was a seroma. He cleaned it and redid the dressing and said it was a good thing i had called because it could go bad fast. If you are concerned you should call your doc. Do not put peroxide or anything else on it if it looks open - the doc told me i could have caused a chemical burn by putting that on an open wound, which is what was recommended to me by the person that called me back who was on-call. Thank God my doc decided to call me back himself. :scared2:

my doc did not put any dressings I left the hospital like this. I am 3 days post op or 4. It doesnt look open but thet glue is wearing off and making me nervous. I will call my dr on monday If I am really worried. He even told my husband that i could shower the next day after surgery and wash them.. Which I did. Soo I dont know.. but I have been in the bed pretty much because the pain meds knock me out also.

Hi there! I just got banded yesterday and had the same concern. My sticky stuff came off on one of my incisions overnight and the doc on-call said that was completely normal when we called. He said to just put a band aid on it. It's not hurting or oozing though. You could jusst tell that it had bled a little overnight.

Good luck to you! :scared2:

My incisions were glued also, but my dr said that there was stitches on the inside that would disolve. The steri-strips stayed on mine for almost 2 weeks, so I just didn't worry about them. Yours was probably stitched on inside also, but I am not sure about the glue coming off too soon. I would call the dr too.

emily, you really need to get up and get moving. Take tylenol or something during the day instead of the narcotics if they wioe you out. My incisions were glued as well. It may be nothing or it could be a seroma or infection. Usually with thoase you have swelling, drainage, increased pain, redness, and fever (infection). I had mine in April and i could shower and all that, just don't rub with a cloth and maybe keep your back to the Water. You really need to get up and walk lots to get rid of the gas as well as keep your circulation going. Call your doc on Monday if you still have concerns or increased symptoms.

Good luck & welcome to bandland.

Mine were glued too. Not open, so I assume he stiched them from the inside as well as glue? My port incision isn't looking very pretty right now, but I don't have anything oozing. It's just red and irritated.

He told me to go ahead and shower like normal. No wound care needed.

My glue started peeling a few days post-op on my upper incisions. I have just left them alone and tried not to let anything rub against them.

Edited to add: My port incision burns at times like it's ripping open. Walking and Tylenol help.

I would also suggest calling your doctor. I have 5 incisions and two of them still have the steri strips on them that the doctor originally put on. I was sent home with bandages on and was told to clean them (I just used a saline wash I did not rub them at all) and put new bandages on for a few more days. You really should try to get moving more too. Good luck :scared2:

The brand of glue we use where I work (outpatient surgery) is called Indermil. The directions from the company says that it is okay to shower after 48 hrs (our docs say 24 is okay). Do not apply creams, medications or ointments to the incsions. Do not rub or scrub the area, and pat dry after showering. Report to your doctor if you have redness, warmth, drainage or fever. The glue generally peels off on it's own in 7-10 days. Do not pull or pick at the wound or the adhesive.

HTH.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
