I had my first fill last week. I had surgery May 31st. I am finding I am more hungry after my fill. The heardest time is between Breakfast and lunch. I just scheduled another fill but why am I so hungry? I was having a Protein Shake for breakfast everyday before my fill because I was not very hungry ... yesterday I had some chicken to see if it held me longer. I do not like being hungry!!!

I had my first fill last week too. At first I thought I was really tight, but now it seems like I can eat more than I should. It seems like I'm gaining a pound or two. I like carbs (fruit & bread) and maybe that's my problem. I eat Protein too, maybe just to much.

We're in a similar boat- I had my surgery one week after you and had my first fill yesterday. Today I am SO hungry! I guess we need to keep making good choices and wait for the next fill

I had my lap band July 2006. At first it was great, I lost 66 pounds and then I fell at work and broke my ankle. I wasn't able to walk for awhile and was only losing 5-6 pounds a month and my Doctor got mad at me and wanted to know when my foot Doctor was going to let me walk again. This totally distressed me and then my Doctor started telling me My husband wasn't giving me the support I needed and I needed to leave him. He said he has only told 2 of his patients that they needed to leave their husbands in his whole practice. He would not give me a fill. I have only had 1 fill of 1 cc since my surgery. My Doctor retired 1 year ago. I have searched for another Doctor and none would see me, saying they do not see other Doctors patients. Now I have finally found a Doctor that will see me and I don't have insurance anymore. Anyway I actually feel a lot hungrier since my band and throw up during just about every meal. I take a bite chew and swallow and run to the bathroom and throw up. I go back and wait for awhile and then I can eat about half my meal. Sometimes I throw that up too. I have gained back most of my weight and am so disgusted with this band, I wish I had never had it done. I hurts so much when I try to eat even with 1 bite. It hurts also when I sleep, I have to position myself so my stomach where my band is dont touch the bed. Also even when I eat and my top part of the stomach is filled, my bottom stomach feels like it is starving. I can feel the hunger pains in my lower stomach. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does anyone else have this problem?

No. But I can tell you that throwing up like that is not normal and is probably indicative of a major problem. Have you considered the possibility that your band slipped?

I'm sorry your doctor meddled in areas of your life that really aren't his problem. While he may have thought he was being helpful, it sounds like he clearly wasn't. It might have helped had he referred you to a psychologist or, at the very least, a family therapist to help you get to the root of your problems (with weight loss, your husband, your pain from your injury -- ir whatever) instead of just spouting opinions and not giving you coping methods or strategies (which, I am merely assuming he did not based on the information you provided).

Getting back to the OP, I was banded 6/4/08 and had my first fill yesterday. I can't say yet that I am hungrier per se, but being on liquids for 2 days after the fill per my doctor's instructions has me CRANKY this weekend. I'm hoping that will be different come Monday when I can eat solid food again.

I definitely FEEL tighter. My shakes are going down much slower. I had 2ccs in a 10cc band at surgery. He added 3 ccs at this first fill, so it's quite a difference.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
