My date is August 5 and start pre-op liquid diet today. I couldn't hardly sleep last night I was so nervous about it. I've been working towards this surgery since mid-February and wanted to lose 20 pounds on my own prior. I did that but gained 4 back when I had my fairwell to food splurge for an entire week. I'm hoping to lose the 4 and then another 10 on pre-op.

I'm a mom to 3 awesome boys ages 11, 6, and 3. I've told them from the day I went to seminar about the surgery. Actually I've told almost everyone I know and everyone is excited for me.

Anyway, I'm gonna go make a carnation instant Breakfast... I know ya'll are jealous.

I am superexcited. I recented my insurance approval yesterday! Less then a week! My surgery is definitely August 11th and I cannot wait!

It has been soo hot and humid here that I am actually tempted to put on my bathing suit and go to the beach. Just think next summer how much more comfortable I will be going to the beach. I cannot wait. 20 more days!

I'm scheduled for 8/13/08!! I will start the pre-op diet about 2 days after I get back from my current long vacation in Colorado with family. It will be very restrictive compared to my vacation eating. I started my journey in Feb. I had to do the 3 month comprehensive diet/exercise with the surgeon, but lost about 55lbs. So, now I've been giving myself a little break these past two weeks. However, we've been doing some walking and hiking (trying to stay active). There are many days that I wonder if I really need the surgery, then I remember that whenever I thought I could do it completely on my own, I ended up failing. So, this time I plan on following through. I have all my pre-op testing scheduled for Aug 1st. I'm very lucky that my work is supportive since I'm currently out for this vacation and then plan on taking another week for the surgery.

On a personal note, I have a 12 year old daughter and a partner that are both very supportive and love the progress I have made. My daughter says that it seems I'm younger and yes, I do feel that way. I love the name of the August bandsters since one of my goals is to get back an athletic body. I'd love to be healthier than I was even in high school when I was playing sports. I also have a couple of extremely supportive friends that are wonderful. I am lucky!!

I look forward to keeping up with this forum as we go through this process.

Hello. I am getting banded on Aug 6th. I'm 31 almost 32,single and live in Puyallup, Wa. So excited it is finally happening, was a long wait/process with insurance and the wait list. I have completed all my tests, orientation and had my pre-op appointment, now just wishing the days would move by quicker. I only have to do a liquid diet for 1 day before surgery. Doc requires you loose 5-10 percent of your excess body weight prior to surgery. I was able to do that, so just have to maintain what i have lost, while not over eating and gaining. I am still hoping to loose another couple pound's before surgery, will see what happens.

Yep I had my pre-op too yesterday and everything is good to go for sx on the 1st.

My Dr says I don't have to do any more pre-op dieting because I've lost 4.4kgs already (just under 10 pds) but I told him that I'd like to continue as it's helping me with learning to control my head hunger, and he was okay with it. He told me though that if I wanted a naughty meal here and there before sx to not feel bad about it. :)

But to be honest I've got a lot of the head hunger under control now so am too scared to let myself loose!

8/8/08 @ 8 is my date. :)

I have my all day education class this Friday. Then I suspect I will begin my preop diet. Either 6 carnation instant breakfasts or 4 Atkins shakes a day for two weeks :frown:. My BMI is over 60 and I think I might advise my surgeon if he can' t do it laproscopic he does not have premission to cut me from stem to stearn. DUDE!

I have been an ER nurse, rehab nurse and now a post surgical floor nurse. Have been married to DH 8 years, is this my year or what, lots of eights... Anyway, my insurance is self funded and I am hoping they approve the procedure, being self funded they pretty much have carte-blanche what they are willing to civer or not. I was however reassured my presentation was wonderful, so we will see. I am bound by a request to keep any and all assistance confidential. I just hope they give me some assistance.

I live in Odessa Tx and there is a wonderful Bariatric program here, however as I work nights it will be very inconvient to do thier support meetings r/t times available. I was beyond estatic to find this site.

I have been overweight all my life, since age 5, I have struggled as I am sure all of you have. I have decided to live, I have twin nieces that just turned 2 and I want to see them grow up and I want to be a "big" part of thier lives not just the big embarassing aunt.

I look at my recent pictures and think WTF? Who is that? :scared2:I don't feel that big and I want to release my inner thin person.

Just a little bout me.....:biggrin2:

Welcome Rhondalou! I know what you mean, I want my insides to match my outsides...Good luck to you! Moe

Hi August Bandsters. After a total of 10 months working towards this I finally have my surgery date for the 12th. My preop is July 28th. I live is sunny Southern California where the weather has been perfect for the last few weeks, I hope I don't jinx it. I'm almost 45 and have been Married 20 years to a wonderful, supportive, handsome, slim man. I have a son going off to college this fall and a 13 year old daughter. I have 2 small dogs and a duck my son snuck into his room for Easter this year that now I'm in love with, so I can't seem to get rid of it. I make the best tasting gourmet wedding cakes that are stunning. This is going to be difficult for me to not lick the spoon! I went shopping with my daughter today and wanted so badly to buy something new. I held off with the idea that it will be much more fun to shop at a smaller size. I decided I want to wear high heals again, and I'd like a pair of boots that fit over my calf. These are things I haven't thought about in a very long time. I also want to dance. It finally struck me that I could maybe dance at one of those weddings I'm always attending. I love to dance and never do because I'm always afraid I look rediculous at my weight. I guess I'm getting excited.

Cutie:

That is so great! What great news you have been given. I'm so envious.

I went for a cardiology consult today, and discovered I have bradycardia, a heart murmur, and "swooshing" in my neck (I'm guessing they are going to rule me out for carotid artery disease tomorrow as I have an echocardiogram of my neck tomorrow). THEN, double YUK!, on July 29th, I have to go for a CT angiogroaphy. I am so not looking forward to that. Has anybody ever had one? I could use some pep talks because someone told me at work today that it is not pleasant! I have heart disease in my family and sometimes get numbness in my arms and dizziness when I climb stairs, but I just thought it was because I was F-A-T! Bummer....

It's so great to hear that all your tests came back clean. I am having all sorts of horrible thoughts that something is going to screw this up for me. I think I'm pretty healthy...aside from having too much junk in the trunk. I'm just afraid that some funky thing will get noticed through all these pre-op tests. I guess I'm just not used to things going my way. Keep your fingers crossed that my August 6th date remains the same when MY test results come in!

That cat video had me rolling. I have two of my own and the most awesome dog on the planet. But I also have engineer friends so that made this extra funny for me.

Couple weeks and August all starts have their KICK OFF!

Vegas, my thoughts and prayers are with you, I hope the tests show that your problems are not too terribly serious and hope that your surgery isn't postponed by this. I also have heart disease in my family so I'm terrified of it, but so far I've been very lucky. Keep us posted!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
