DFW - Band Buddy Wanted

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm going through the process of getting banded. I have had my initial consult with Dr. Ferrara, and my nutrition meeting. I have my phych eval tomorrow and hopefully will be scheduling my surgery for August or September.

A little about me...I'm 5'5 and about 225 pounds. I want to lose at least 80 pounds. I'm married with 4 kids (just in case you didn't get that from my user name :cursing:). I don't have the spousal support for the surgery, so I'm hoping to find a friend that would help me through it. This site has been great but wanted someone locally to talk to in person (lunch visits, phone, email, whatever). Would like buddies that have been there done that...and someone going through the motions now like me.

Thanks so much!!

Wish I lived closer, I would love to be there for you. Years ago, when I was married to my ex, I wanted to try medifast and he said we couldn't afford it. I did it anyway, on my own by pawning my own stuff and I lost 80 lbs. He would never even acknowledge the weight loss. Nothing, no "I'm proud of you" or "lookin' Good" I'll never forget that. Unfortunately I put the weight back on over several years and we divorced. Long story longer, I met the wonderful man I am married to now and he has supported me with the lapband decision, although I was 240 when we married so I know my weigh was never an issue with him.

Back to you, sorry...I got carried away, huh? Anyway, sounds like your on the right track. I love my lapband. You don't sound like you're in too bad a shape. I'm only 5 ft tall and weighed 240 lbs when I got mine. Of course I'm still only 5 ft. :frown:

Hang in there and I hope you find a buddy close to home!

later, Joanie )

Sometimes I think men don't understand that women like their ego stroked. I know my husband sometimes asks me if I think he did this well...when I tell him yes he says well you didn't tell me. OMG...such babies!!

You are so blessed to have found a man that loves you unconditionally!! Congrats on your weight loss!! That is so wonderful and such an inspiration.

I wish you lived closer too. Where is Beeville?

Hey there. You are making the right decision for YOU. I'm fortunate to have spousal support in my decision, but I"m pretty sure I would have done it even if he hadn't been in agreement.

I live in Arlington, right next door to you! Good luck on your surgery!

Donna

Thanks Donna!! I am going to have the surgery whether he wants me to or not!!

:Banane03: You go girl!!! We have to do what's right for us, and hopefully he'll come around and be happy for your choice.

I think I'm gonna put in an ad, like you did, for someone here in Beeville to work out with. Wish me luck!! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
