Are fills covered by ins. if the surgery is? (UHC)

Recommended Posts

I have United Healthcare. I am hoping to get surgery approval. My question for others with UHC is if the surgery is covered, are the fills covered? If not, how much should I expect to pay for these? I have the HMO, so all of my normal doctor visits and such are on a co-pay system. For example, for maternity, it costs $100 for the hospital stay and $15 for the first OB/GYN visit...that's it. I think it is pretty good insurance, so I'm hoping everything will be covered. I would appreciate hearing about anyone elses experiences with UHC or similar insurance plans. Thanks in advance.

I just have to say that I wish my fills were covered by insurance! My Dr covers the first three months, but seeing as how you can't get a fill until 6 weeks, he basically covers the first fill. After that, I'm self-pay for my fills because my insurance that actually covered the surgery, doesn't cover this integral part of the surgery, the part that actually makes it work! Good luck, I hope your insurance company does cover it!

I have UHC, and my doctor said that the fills are covered for the first year only, then it would be self pay. Now if I could only get UHC to approve, have been denied twice now

This is another thing that tends to vary. Plus it really depends on how the office codes the fill. One surgeon I looked at codes fills as a simple office visit so it's pretty much always covered.

I have Cigna and am still awaiting approval but, my doctors office includes 4 fills in the surgery price and my insurance covers fills so I guess I am pretty lucky. Now only if my pre-approval happens fast I will really feel lucky.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
