Hello everyone, --first time here. I am scheduled to be banded on July 14. After considering lap band for about 2 years, I finally decided to go for it. I am self pay. Everyone that I have told about being banded has been constatnly asking me "Are you nervous?". And up until now the answer has been NO. But now...??? I feel like ..ok .. this is my last chance at a normal life. What if I can't do this? If I fail at this then there is nothing left out there to help me achieve a healthy weight. I am normally not this negative sounding and I don't want to set myself up for failure. I decided to be banded a little over a month ago. I was relieved to have finally made that step. I went overboard with the " this is my last chance to eat nachos, french fries, popcorn, etc. I probably gained 5 pounds. So now for the last 2 weeks before surgery I am supposed to be on 2 Protein Shakes and 1 lite meal per day. Well the Protein shakes taste like muddy Water and I am starving all the time. I cheated horribly on the 4th of july. And now I feel like I don't know if I am strong enough to do this. I am committed to doing this and making the lifestyle changes for me and my son. I'm just wondering is it normal to go overboard with trying to consume all my favorite foods " one last time". Please any advice is welcome. I am freakin' out here.:)

Hi Keri, my name is Paul, and I am also getting banded on the 14th. I think I could have wrote word for word what you just described. I too am worried if I can change my eating habits. I think I've put on about 5 pounds in the last couple of weeks. I think it is almost like a grieving process. Kind of like saying goodbye to an old friend. I think once we start taking off weight, it will help get us motivated also. I'm going shopping tommorow for all my post op stuff, and I ordered Unjury protien drink, and will buy some at the store also. We'll get there, we will do this. Good luck, and keep us posted.

keri236,

hang in there, you are doing this for you!!!

I am amazed that you wrote what I did as well...now taking off the five pounds.

I am scheduled for the 15th, right behind you.

Did a post op shop yesterday, getting ready.

I was turned on to the EAS protien shakes, Carb control. ok if they are cold. Pre mixed so it is easy to go.

Nothing tastes as good as skinny is going to feel.

Oh hun, I think its totally normal! I am just starting the process in getting banded and I have never eaten so much in my life. Its like...I know I cant eat this way after I get banded, and I just indulge and over eat. I think its how we say "goodbye" to our old ways...just get that food in one last time. I put on 10lbs since I made the decision 2 months ago to get banded. Good Luck hun, I know you will do great!

Don't worry I had several "last suppers" before I had surgery, you'll do just fine.

Hello,

I am with you. I am scheduled for July 10th. My boyfreind and I went away for a weekend a few weeks ago and that is all we did was eat. I had my last slice of cheesecake. Now that I am nothing but liquids 2 weeks pre op I wish I had another slice...:) I know that is bad but that is my weakness. Keep you head high and keep trying. This is the most difficult thing I have ever done and I hope the pay off will be great.

I'm one week out until banding. I find I am also eating food that I think I won't be eating ever again. Thank goodness I have not gained any weight. I started 2 weeks ago adding extra Protein to my diet (mostly in the form of low carb high Protein shakes). It sounds like we all are going through the dreaded I'll never be able to eat that food again phase. I just try not to beat myself up too much and limit the amount I have. I had my favorite mac and cheese yesterday, but only ate 1/2 cup worth of it. My measuring cups and my scale are becoming my very best friends since portions are my main problem. I so excited to get banded and have a lot of confidence in my surgeon, Dr. Simpson in Phoenix. Good luck to all on the weight loss journey.

Jane

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
