((I’m not good at introducing myself, sorry. :)))

Hola!

I’m 20 years old and have been considering the lap band for a couple of years now. I have struggled with my weight all my life and it has gotten to the point where I just can’t take it anymore. I probably have done every diet on the planet. I’ve even been through the high school phase where I wouldn’t eat or make myself sick afterwards. Two years ago I went to my doctor and talked about getting Gastric Bypass, and was quickly talked out of it since I was so young – and told to wait till Madigan got the lap band.

They finally have it now! I made an appointment with my doctor on the first of august to talk about it (it’s so hard to get into the hospital here). So I’m crossing my fingers and hoping. I’m in the middle of getting ready to take my MCAT’s in the winter, and would be ecstatic if I could get banded before then.

I recently lost my dad due to cancer in March, and it really forced me to look at life in a different way. The best way to say it is that I grew up overnight. I know now that if I don’t make a move towards a healthier life that I am most likely going to die young – and I’d never be able to forgive myself if I were to leave my mom here alone.

I came across this site a couple of night ago and decided to finally join up. I think hearing others stories would really open my eyes to things. I don’t want to go into something like this blindly. I'm pretty sure I'll have 32489720348723409823 questions during my forum stay.

Wooo. Hope I didn’t put you guys to sleep. So I’ll end this abruptly with a:

Nice to meet ya, and pleasure to be here!

Hi Selenium,

And welcome to Lapband talk. You will find all the info you need on this site. I had lapband surgery on July 2 and I am doing well. Just like you, I have done every diet imaginable and could not get the weight off or keep it off. Good luck to you in your weight loss journey. And I am sorry for the loss of your father. Hope you are going well. God Bless!

:) Congratulations on your decision to get control of your life at an early age. I'm sorry to hear about your loss, ut making this decision will change your life for the better. I was banded on Dec. 28,2007 and am now down from 259 lbs. to 202 lbs. The band is not a mirracle!! You still have to eat sensibly, but the band makes it a lot easier to do that.

Best wishes!!

Congrads, on control of your weight, i had my surgery on dec 19,207 and am down 51 pds. most I have ever lost , i worked out the first couple of months but have slacked off a lot since the weather as been so hot , but the weight is still coming off, it is a choice of how fast u want the weight to come off and how you want to live your everyday life. I don't have any regrets at all. I am trying to talk my boss into having it done even. So good luck on your journey.Ask any question on here and someone will have a answer for you.

Welcome. you will love this site. I've been a regular for over a year and am just getting around to my surgery. It's reassuring to hear other people with the same concerns, feelings and problems that you have and how they handle it. Plus you can get alot of good ideas about pre-op and post-op food choices. Good Luck! Susan:thumbup:

I'm 20 as well lol, theres also a teen thread and a 20's something thread on here that you might find useful, just scroll down on the left and wait til you see it. As for what you said about the diets and everything I can definetly relate, Ihavent tried every single diet there is but I have been on weight watchers too many times to count, I'm sorry to hear about your father but in a way it's a good thing that it's made you re-evaluate your life right? I know when a friends father passed away in 06 and I went to his funeral it definetly put alot of things into perspective for me, just little random things but non the less they definetly helped, if you need to talk to someone you can always message me if you want =)

Sorry for such a short reply. Been working on essays all day and my brain is officially dead.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome! I look forward to joining the community, and from what I can see so far - it is a nice place to be.

Sarah.R - I love to mingle with all age groups, but I'll definetly go and take a look at those two sections. I really thought weight watchers would be the one, since it's worked for so many friends. I think I'm broken ! Thank you for the message offer, I'd like to extend the same to you <3.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
