Hey everyone. I am AAF from Richmond, VA. I was banded 1/19/07. Surgery day I was 300.5, (highest weight ever was 368) and today I am 225. My goal is 199. I have gone from size 26/28 to currently mostly size 16. Have even been able to venture into the Misses Dept. which I have never been able to do before. I work out at Curves 4 times a week and walk. My biggest problem is my arms. They are not terribly bad and i still wear my sleeveless tops. Stomach is holding up ok. I have lost my butt (I hate that but would sacrifice it to be healthier). Prior to surgery, my blood sugar and blood pressure were both creeping up. Both run in my family. No hair thinning or loss.I now have shoulders, a chin and checkbones. People "claim" they don't recognize me. My 40th birthday is August 14 and I am actually looking forward to it now. I also have to get my driver's license renewed. Can't wait to get that weight changed on it.

I know I am a few years late but I really need to discuss wls with coloreed women (like myself) because I am in the process of attempting to have lap band surgery.... waiting to schedule sleep apnea test. After starting my lap band journey I was told my a bariatric doctor that lapband is ineffective in 60 percent of colored women and if I am serious about having wls I should go for the microscopic gastric bypass. I need more information, preferably from women who ave ad the lap band and their experiences with it. This group seems awesome because I see that most women signed up in 08 and I would like to know how many women kept the weight off and how do they feel about their decision years later. Pleaseeee someone help! I need to decide before the end of this month. Also is it possible for me to join the colored women wls forum? Invite please.

Nolita

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
