Discouraged and Disappointed

Recommended Posts

I have been going to my appointments for my six month diet with doctor for my insurance purposes. I found out in the last few days that my Iron is low, prescription for Iron pills 350 2x a day. B12 is low taking a pill under my tongue 1x a day. My Vitamin D was already low and been taking 50,000 units a week for the last 6 weeks. I am concerned about what is causing this and is this going to keep me from having the surgery? I also have sjogrens disease which is an immune disease and I take plaquenel, could this be what is causing my Vitamin dificiencies and will this keep me from having the lapband?

I dont know why its so low now - maybe cause your dieting before surgery you arent eatting enough of foods with Iron - but I can say from experience - take the iron - cause I had the bypass in 2004 & then in April 2008 I had the band put in and when I was going for the pre op testing they found me severely anemic - also low Vit D - so I have to take 6 Flintsons chewable w/ iron plus another tiny iron pill plus a D pill every day - also PLEASE make sure you take colace or something like that because with all the extra iron YOU WILL 100% become MAJORLY constipated and again i know this from experience - its probably the foods your eatting - this is what I was told by my doc's & that it happens a lot w/ people who do like crash or fast diets - they still did the surgery on me - but I just have to be much more careful - also drink fluids - it will help w/ the Constipation - lots of Water - Lots of luck to you! Also check with your doc before hand being you have other situations with your health!!

I haven't started a fast weight loss diet yet? But I really don't eat right. Hopefully the Vitamins will solve the problems. I pray that I will be able to have the surgery. This is my last hope of getting rid of my sleep apnea. I have no energy to walk too far so I cannot exercise very long so I won't lose too much weight at this point anyway. Thanks for replying.

Chery try not to worry. The doctor knows what Vitamins you need and will give you what they think you need before surgery. When you get to talk to the doctor ask them if the Vitamins will have you where you need to be for surgery.

I am having trouble with white blood count. Don't know if it is coming from a tooth or sinus infection. Put me on two different antibiotics and have to repeat blood work next week. My surgery is July 16th. Hope all goes well with you. I can relate to the not being able to walk and exercise. My knees are so bad. I can't wait for surgery.

I love your name! Thanks for the kind words. I am trying not to get worried but I am a natural worry wart. How long have you been trying to get this surgery? I have to do the six month diet because of Humana. I have a couple more months and then testing. Hope you feel better and everything works out that you can have your surgery and be on your way to being a healthy nana.

cheryl1952, I am self pay $13,600.00. I have State Group through the school (School Bus Driver) and it does not pay for weight loss surgeries. Although with self pay it is faster. I started with going to the seminar 6/3 and completed everything and got my call with my surgery date 6/20 and surgery 7/16. So I am not complaining about that part even though its not easy to come up with that much money. I hope things go well and you can be on your way too. Keep in touch. Thanks for the compliment on the name, my email is leaveittonana@aol.com. You know my little grandaughter must be special to have a Nana that loves her so much.

I have a grandaughter too! She is nine years old and her name is Lexie she was named after my grandmother. I understand how special they are. God gives us back a little of our children after they leave. That is another reason I want this I want to be able to watch her grow up. I pray God will bless us to be able to be healthy again. My email is adkinsc1970@yahoo.com.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
