Surgery tomorrow (July 2) ~ Unbelievable!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am scheduled for my lap band surgery tomorrow morning. For the last week I have been really scared and nervous. But today, it's more like disbelief. I keep asking myself - "Am I really having surgery tomorrow?" It just feels unreal. I have waited so long and it's finally here. Any words of encouragement would be appreciated! (Especially for the pre-surgery jitters). Thanks.

It will be great. You will be fine. You will be released from both a physical and psychological burden. So Happy Independence day ! And good luck.

Just let me tell ya.... I am the biggest chicken in the world when it comes to doctors. I too was scared and nervous. I got in there and got ready for surgery, they gave me some medicine through my I.V., wheeled me to the operating room and the next thing I knew they were waking me up and saying it was over. I kept thinking why was I so worried about this. So take it from me (the chicken) you will be fine. Don't worry and good luck to you.

Barbie congrats on getting banded tomorrow. You will do great. The hardest thing with the band is you have to be patient. Restriction takes a few adjustments so hang in there once you start getting fills. Good luck.

I was going to say pretty much the same thing that Sally said... Happy Independence Day! You're going to do great. Think about this, there are hundreds of lap band surgeries being performed every single day.... it's a huge day in your life and a bit of a scary experience for you but fortunately, for your doctor it's just another day at the office, doing what he (or she) does every day. You'll be in good hands. Best of luck!

i got banded yesterday with the Lap Band AP. When you are in the pre-op area they will give you a drug called versed. It takes about 3-4 minutes to kick in and then you will not remember anything and you'll wake up after the procedure.

Best wishes to you. My advice, don't go back to work too soon. Be sure you have a good variety of liquids in the house. Don't plan on getting on the laptop tomorrow night if you get to come home...you'll definately need sleep. Be sure to have a nice cushy pillow in your bed to prop under your belly. Get some great magazines and take care of YOU. Look forward to hearing from you in the POST-op forum. Good luck.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement! I really needed to hear them. I am still jittery and I am sure I will not be getting much sleep tonight, but I better try since I have to be at the hospital very early in the morning. I will post again once I get home and am rested. Thanks again!

Hi,

I was just banded on July 2 and all went well. This is my first post since surgery. The scariest part for me was waiting for the surgery. Once I got to the hospital, everything went smoothly and I woke up in recovery. Once I realized I was alive, then I felt really good. I am still sore, but fine. I didn't have any complications. I am looking forward to a new life. For those of you who are not banded yet, it was simple and don't be afraid. For those of you who already are banded, thank you for your encouraging words! It meant a lot to me and helped me through the process. Since I did not tell many people that I was going to have the surgery, I am unable to talk to many people. But it's really nice to have a support group to talk to! Thank you so much!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
