R R is from the area I live in and so I feel I kind of have to support a hometown girl who does "good". I think R R has a healthy attitude about food in general. How else could you cook and love food that much and still have her shape!

I prefer Paula Deen and she makes me feel good and I enjoy her shows and I can relate to her more except for the fact I wasn't a cheerleader and she may have been a prom queen too! They're both strong women who have succeeded in male oriented businesses.:smile2:

I just don't like RR's voice. It might be a petty reason to not watch someone on tv...but with all the options and so little time nowadays it doesn't take much for me to flip the channel.

Paula Dean on the other hand, I think she has to be the cutest woman alive. I really enjoy watching her show. I try not to too much though. Makes me insanely hungry for naughty things.:smile2::drool:

What made it worse was that the woman had gastric bypass (or similar) to lose the weight. She probably couldn't even eat what Rachel was making.

I think producers are the ones who book the guests for the shows, so maybe Rachel wasn't entirely at fault for that one. But, it might have been better if she'd done some homework and found a recipe that would be diet-friendly for a GB patient. Just my opinion.

Awww.. I like her, and she does use food to pull her family together, she talks about it all the time. I don't see why they should be condemned for this, I know my family is the same way. Everyone encourages cooking with your kids, etc.

She's such a happy go lucky person, she's someone I'd want to be friends with!

Oh I'm such a two faced person....

Who hasn't made themselves or someone else try to feel better with food?

I don't blame RR for saying what she said, I just don't like you see her olive oil in the store, you see her face on the wheat thins box, she shilling for Dunkin' Donuts, so I learned flipping through a mag...

Truth be told if I were offered the same shot as she was I'd try to milk it for every penny.

I'm just tired of her.

I am one of the people that CAN'T STAND HER, you can be nice, informative without carrying on like she do. Just looking at her, while

just turning the channel annoys me to no end.

I used to watch RR on 40$ a day. I liked the show, but I will say this much, what really got on my nerves was how she called EVERYONE she met a friend!! She bumps into a guy on the subway, says two words two him and calls him her friend! She takes a ride on a bus, talks to a couple of people for like 3 minutes, and then they are her friends. I don't know, its just something so fake and irritating about it. LOL I guess I am just being an ass... I dont' know...

I love RR. As for seeing her face everywhere, what about Emeril? He has his shows, his line of foods to sell, Paul Newman's Own?? We could go on and on. I think RR does pretty good with trying to bring some healthy choices into her cooking. Always make suggestions for changing up a recipe. Some who had by-pass could eat what she cooks same as someone with lap-band. Each is unique in what we can tolorate. I think RR ROCKS!

Wow, alot of the people hating RR have no clue what her show is? I comments like "who has that stuff in there kitchen", "bypass patient couldn't eat what she is cooking", "she goes on and on".

Most people do have the stuff in their own kitchen to cook what she's cooking. She has one of the most down to earth recipes compared to other TV cooks.

Bypass patients can eat alot of her stuff. Other then the pastas she makes, she always cooking healthy with lean Proteins and good veggies.

She suppose to go on and on. How many people would watch a cooking show with the cook only saying "throw a cup of sugar here". "Mix well then spread on pan". No TV cook does this. They all share stories and experiences while cooking and they all keep talking.

Who said there was room for a sensible reply on here? Just kidding.

Good points all.

And like everything else in the world, turn the channel, it's not like one is being held hostage by RR.

I like RR, but I agree her voice can get annoying. She talks about her husband too much. I don't watch her morning show, just 30 minute meals. Her meals are things I have in my own kitchen and fast. I like that she's happy and came from a more humble background.

Giada on the other hand, wear a more appropriate shirt girl, she's always letting things hang out. She annoys me. She talks normal until she has something italian like pizza or mozzerella to say and suddenly she develops an accent for that word only. "Now we're going to add some Mottzarelllla." I don't know how to write out her ONE WORD italian accent. She's perfectly perky. Ug. That much perfection drives people crazy! I'll take not so perfect RR any day.

I love Rachel! I am a very optimistic person so I love her upbeat, perky personality. Her cooking is down to earth and truly comfort food. She uses a lot of fresh ingredients and everything can be prepared quickly. I haven't watched her 30-Minute Meals in some time...cooking shows have never been my thing....but I'd see her when my husband watched her. We both watched her $40 a day show though.

Is it the raspiness (sp) of her voice or her Upstate NY kind of accent, I have to be protective as my children were born and raise here, lol!

OMG when Giada says "spaghetti" I just cringe! Do you know what I'm talking about? I believe her mother was an actress and has some connection to movies etc... don't remember what it is.

Nanook- lol, it's the raspiness. I spent a lot of time in New England, so I can't get on any one for their accent... as long as it's not a one word accent like Giada! For Giada, spaghetti isn't spaghetti, is Sp-a-ghett-ee. lol, yes very annoying!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
