July Butterflies Master Thread

Hi everyone--I thought I'd listen to some advice from one of the other monthly groups and start one master thread in which we have an ongoing discussion/updates. I don't know about you all but I certainly spend most of my time on these boards on the pre-op forum and the general forum, not here. It would be nice to have just one thread to go to once in this forum.

We can maybe start out with introductions?

As for me, I'm going the "online privacy" route for now (paranoid that people I haven't told about this will somehow stumble across me on this site I guess, which is crazy, I know) but I can give you the big picture:

You can call me Penny, I'm 27, single and live in the Washington, DC area. I have a background in politics (which is why I live in DC) but now I'm a librarian which is much cooler and way more fun (trust me on that). Oh, and there's no "Marion the Librarian" thing with me either. One of the things I hear most frequently (besides the cliche "you have such a pretty face") is "but you don't LOOK like a librarian", which is another one of those bizarre backhanded compliments that you never really know how to take.

Personality wise, I'm kind of dorky, big into public radio and books and popular science. Oh, I'm also a little on the paranoid side (as you may be able to tell from earlier in this post). Beyond that I'm just kind of silly and friendly, VERY much so into traveling and I'm an aspiring "green" domestic diva (but that's not going so well).

So no more waiting for me. I will be having surgery today to look for adhesions. I had a very terrible day of pain last Monday which convinced me that I have to do it. I went for an appointment on Thursday and they decided to do it right away.

They told me that this would be much "easier" then my banding. I do hope this is the case, but I will believe it when I see it. I just hate all this anxiety.

My roommate when I was banded, was a bypass patient who was in for removal of adhesions all over her abdomen. It runs in her family, and she has to have it done every couple of years. My band surgeon did her operation, too, and spent several hours cleaning her up. She felt great, except for bringing up the chicken soup her friend brought her, and left that afternoon or evening. We spent the time talking...about food and recipes! LOL

BTW she was at her goal weight and looked terrific!

Well, my surgery was cancelled. One of my surgeons got sick; there are so many stomach and respiratory bugs going around here. I understand, but I'm really frustrated.

I am sorry to hear that your surgery was cancelled. Hopefully they will reschedule it soon.

Hi everyone - I've been away for awhile. Like many of you struggling with no weight loss - my own fault. Back to very bad habits. So, I need to give myself a big kick in the butt.

Orea - glad to hear your recovery is going well.

lovegrapes - hang in there. Hopefully your surgery will be resecheduled soon.

Are there any challenges going on right now? I could use one!

I am doing the donut day and july 4th challenges. I am not doing WELL in them, but I am doing them.

Girl, you have a lot of milestones to reach. Me......well, as you can see my ticker has not moved yet. I did lose about three.....then gained......then now I am back down, but not ready to move the ticker. I got that cortisone injection in my back last week now I am so hungry. I feel like I am in bandster hell.

Charlene, I am sorry about the cortizone, those are the worst. I STAY hungry when I have to get one of those (normally twice a year). I REFUSE to move my ticker until I lose some more, dangit. I am going to the gym starting Thursday, so hopefully it will start moving downward again.

This blasted band diet along with trying to qiut smoking is going to put me in the nut house, I don't know rather I want to scream or cry. Maybe a little of both, Sure hope I still have some freinds and family still talking to me when this is all said and done. Everything makes me mad or start crying right now. I'm just not use to all the negitve emoitions. I just don't know how much more I can take. I mean crap, I don't even want to be around me right now. Plus I can't even remember the last time that ticker moved. SORRY ladies, VENTING!!

Vent away!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is what we are here for!

Kimaly, I can relate. I quit smoking in Jan of 2008, started back up in Nov 2008, quit again in Jan 2009 and started again on Valentine's Day. I am going to quit for good after the 1st weekend in May. The good news is that now I know I can do it.

Kimaly and Charlene, have u 2 ever noticed how similar your avis are? I always have to look at the name, otherwise, I get you two mixed up!

Orea, hope you're still healing well.

Lovegrapes, relief is just around the corner, so hang on!

Boos - staying away isn't helping so stay and try to motivate yourself by motivating others.
