12 days post op/port pain

Recommended Posts

Hey all!

I am 12 days out from surgery and am still having quit a bit of pain at my incisions and in my back and left shoulder sometimes. I am still having to take pain meds every 10-12 hours or I can't move!! I went to my post op appointment last Wednesday and the doctor said it was unusual to have so much pain still, and to call him if it got worse. I also seem to have a lot of swelling(edema) in fingers and legs that I thought would go down by now. I am getting all my Water in and am still on the *damn* liquid diet!! Monday I get to start mushies, woo hooooo!!! I was a bit let down at the postop nutrition meeting, as most of the group are bypass and had lost in the double digits!!! Me, well it was 5 lbs!! But now I'm at 8 lbs lost, so I guess that's ain't bad for day 12, I just am so incredibly bored with staying around the house, but I tried to get out with my Mom for a bit yesterday, but was too tired after about 2 hours!! She reminded me that I had MAJOR surgery, even if there are only 5 incisions, plus I had a hernia repair and exploratory in my pelvis, DNC and ablation of my uterus; so I was out longer and on the table longer! I have loved getting to know some of you in the chat room, it has helped the weeks go by a bit better!!

Thanks to all!!

Everybody is different. Some people are up and back to work in just a few days while other take a few weeks. You have to remember you a extra done. The lapband was a breeze for me compared to my hysterectomy 3 1/2 years ago. Just be patient, you will see progress in how you are feeling and your weight loss.

I had lots of "port" pain too. I saw my doc and she gave me some neurontin for the pain, which helped me to be mobile again. I still have some pain when I exert myself too much, even 6 weeks post op, but nothing I have to take medicine for. Good Luck!

I am 10 days post op and my port incision is still swollen and protrudes alot. It's tender if I bump something too. I also have 2 places where there is thread or suture sticking out and they are not near incisions.

Don't know wether i should pull them out or if they will dissolve. Anyone else have this?

Hi there,

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond, but things have been hectic for me. He's a great doctor who truly cares, I did have some issues with pain control at the hospital and would be glad to fill you in on the side. I've had one fill so far and it was no problem at all, how found it easily and it was not painful except for the novacaine or whatever they used to numb the skin. Feel free to email me for more info, as I don't have time to hang out on this sight much anymore!! darie62@yahoo.com

Take care,

Darie

My first two days post-op were pretty painful, but then I did really well for the next 5 days, almost no pain meds at all. Then I went back to work and sat all day and I was back on the pain meds, worse than after my surgery. I called my Dr and they said it was normal don't worry. The port pain got worse and worse every day, and I was sure something was wrong. Then on day 14 I woke up and the pain was completely gone, and only returns once in a while when I do something stupid. Hang in there, it will get better soon and you will just be amazed.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
