Renewed: I know you probably know all this but ill say it anyway. Start your run slow..better to speed up at the end. Running in a actual race can totally throw you off. YOur going want to run fast at the start cas everyone else is..beware..start slow!

I finished my Nike Human Race 10k on Sunday in 1hr 10mins...still slow but i didnt walk any of it. 10k really is my limit right now. Im hoping for a half Mary in April 09.

Slowwwwwwwww start...finish strong.

georgia - all the best in your move; that's plenty of exercise in & of itself.

leslie - you've been kicked...get back out and start; as much as i still struggle with learning to love to run; it is a good stress relief & the legs aren't looking like tree trunks any longer:biggrin:

good luck renewed on the 5k this wkend....starting to get nervous of mine in exactly a month:eek::)

hope your run went well kathy!!!

low carbing' - SO hard to do; especially when working out hard. if i don't have them; i can't put the effort in the crazy workouts my trainer has me doing....be hard to give up fruit as well.

so i think my toe nail issues is due to the fact that i "twinkle toe run". i asked my trainer today to watch me while i was on the treadmill how i ran - and he said i land on my toes every time. might be why they're splitting. now my breathing is under control i guess i have to pay attention to landing properly....too much to think about..LOL

today :

walk 5min / run 20min / walk 10min / run 20min

bike - alpine pass interval training level 9 - 30min

Luluc - Tree Trunks! You are right - that's exactly what they look like - the cellulite resembles bark - LOL

Thanks for the encouragement guys. It's been one of those weeks. I'm going when I get off work today - no excuses!

I haven't posted in a long while. I am having the hardest time with week 6 day two, it is kicking my butt! Any helpful tips? I see that some of you eat a healthy carb before your workouts, maybe I'll try that. I usually only drink two bottles of Water before I head to the gym. and I normally workout in later in the day around 6:00pm.

My 5k is in 4 weeks...YIKES! any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I DID IT!!! FINALLY!!! I ran 20 min non-stop!!!!! OMG I can't believe it. This has been kicking my butt for 3 weeks! Then I started to get discouraged, so I stopped running every 2nd day and started to have excuses not to run. I finally figured out I was board running on the treadmill.

So today I decided to go outside and try it. My DH decided to come with me - even though he's sick and has bronchitus (LOL). So we ran a route that would end up at the school to pick up the kids. I figured I'd have to walk at some point, but just decided to run until I couldn't anymore or until I got to the school. Well, I got to the school without stopping and could have gone further. The time was 21 minutes... so I did it!

I really liked running outside. Much more interesting and when I got tired I could slow down without working the controls of the treadmill.

However, I do know I was running much slower outside than on the treadmill. But that's ok... time not speed right now is my goal!

Now it's my turn to be sappy!!!

Leslie... thank you for being in the "unmotivated" mode today. Seeing you in that situation was the right amount of kick I needed, because I realized I wanted to help you get motivated... so in turn I helped myself!

Renewed... you are such an inspiration. I was thinking about you while I ran, thinking how much faster you would have been running!! LOL

Georgia... thank you for being my running buddy. You are doing so great, and I know you're going to rock on your 5k.

Luluc... your dedication to your fitness is so great! Knowing that you were struggling at a certain point a few weeks ago, and got through it, helped me persever to get through mine.

Lynn... I love your humor and your posts. BTW... I land on my heals, and it all feels natural! So I guess I'm ok!

Whosya... you're amazing! Your 10k time is great. Thanks for your cheering... imagine you'd look pretty cute in a cheerleader outfit! LOL

Everyone on this tread is such an inspiration! I look so forward to talking with you all everyday, even when I don't succeed on my run. Thank you!!!

Kathy, Isn't it amazing how emotional that 20 minute run is. We all come back and post these amazing posts. I can just see the smile on your face. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!! That is such a big step!! Once you do the 20 minutes you feel like you can do anything!! WAY TO GO!!

Whosya, thanks so much for the advice. I have got to get outside and run. We are getting lots of rain from Gustav so I don't know when that will be.

I am going to have to not run the 5k on Saturday. I just decided this weekend to do that not knowing that DH has planned a special weekend getaway for us!! We are leaving Friday afternoon and won't be home until Sunday afternoon. We are going to lake Palestine for the weekend. DH's family has a timeshare there and he put us on a waiting list. THey called today adn have a cabin for us for the weekend. I am so excited.

So I will be running the 5k on September 20th and that may be it until after PS.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Is the Couch to 5k best to start 2 weeks after being banded? I was banded on Sept. 2nd and would like to join this program, but I'm too sore to start now.

health, start when your doctor releases you to run. I would definately ask the doctor. Until then walk. Walking will help with the soreness and will also help with gas pain. I have learned the hard way, but it is very important to listen to your body!!

Okay, thanks! Did you find walking to be the best remedy for gas? I'm struggling with that now, 2 days after surgery.

I took GasX and walked. The GasX didn't seem to help alot, but walking did. Walking gets the gas to moving. Gas was the only post op problem that I had. I think that is very common. Just keep moving.

You will love the c25K when you are ready. Right now just concentrate on recovery. Welcome to this journey!!

lyn you crack me up!!! HEELS FIRST!

have to tell you, i have all you ladies in my head while running. today outside w/my trainer, i was:

thinking of renewed & the rocky music

kathy saying nice things and not wanting to give up and i just SO wanted to this AM

wondering if leslie got out running

breathing properly and planting w/my heel....OH MY

all this makes for a crazy lady who ALREADY has ADD!!!...LOL:tongue::crying:

anyway did run for 20mins in addition to 40minute weight training before hand. planting the heel first is going to take some work - didn't realize ALL the weight is forward; and i really believe that's the issue w/my toes splitting. poor nails don't have a chance w/my thighs coming down on them:eek:

enjoy your trip renewed....think i'm taking tomorrow off, since DH decided to take the day off. might play some golf....take care all!! & hello to all newly joined C5k'ers....

Luluc, You are doing great!! It is so much work to do the training with running. I have added back my Jillian dvd's and an upper body weight training, and I have found that it is harder to complete my runs. My muscles just feel tired. You have always been such a motivation to me. Keep it up girl!!

Having said that, I was able to complete my 35 minute run today. I was afraid with TOM I wouldn't be able to finish. It was TOUGH, but it is done. Now just weights for my arms left for today.

Leslie, I noticed your weight loss on another thread!! YOU ROCK!! How are your runs going??

Have a great day everyone.

BTW, I talked to the doctor's office today and my PS is tentatively set for Oct 24, pending ok by the GYN who will do my tubal. I am counting down!!

Thanks Renewed! Ya'll I did go to the gym yesterday - I did the elliptical and bicycle for 30 minute each then I got on the treadmill. I still need to buy another MP3 Player (mine bit the dust last week) so I didn't run, but I'm going to start again at week 3 on Monday. I miss running. I did so great weeks 1-3, but week 4 I just couldn't overcome. I'm not giving up though! I went back to the gym this morning too and am going tomorrow morning. Back on the wagon!!! Now to get an MP3 player that works - I just can't run without music...I need distraction - LOL

I weighed in today and lost six pounds this week!!!! I about fell over when she told me that - I actually did an embarassing happy dance - LOL

Renewed - congratulations on your PS! I bet you are thrilled...you deserve it. You've worked so hard and come so far. TOM is hard on me too...it drains me and I don't do anything for a few days. Take care of yourself. I had a tubal with my last c-section. I can't tell you about the recovery since it was intertwined with the whole baby thing. I'd be a bit one-sided (BAD) if I did that.

I have been silent lately on this thread, actually lurking, lurking, lurking....I haven't been running like I want and need. I'm still here though!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
