Anyone else have a fickle band?

Recommended Posts

I am getting discouraged. I was at 3.1 in my 4cc band and was losing pretty well. All of a sudden, it was hard for me to hold down solids and it would take me forever to sip a glass of Water. So I went down to 3.0 and then I could eat like a pig and was starving. So now I am at 3.02 (2 drops of saline) and can still eat normal portions. My doctor said that sometimes the stomach lining thickens around the band so you get more restriction. So I am 17-20 lbs from goal with no sweet spot. I have flexuated the same 3-6 lbs for a long time now. Any advice? Should I just live on liquids and mushies until I hit goal?:Angel_anim:

Don't be discouraged. Just expect that it will happen from time to time. Once you make peace with that, you will be less stressed about your ups and downs with fills. On the days that you feel looser, give yourself some wiggle room with your calorie intake (if you keep track of that). Surviving on mushies and liquids is no way to live. Yes, I know it screws with your mind, but it is what it is. Keep up the good work. You're almost there.

Thanks Jasmine. I have gained 5-7 lbs since I got a slight unfill so we shall see tomorrow. I have probably had 20 fills and unfills in 2 years so I really have a fickle band.

I can relate to what you are talking about. One day I could eat anything and the next day I couldn't swallow my own saliva with an unfilled band. It makes no sense.

Have you tried cutting out all white carbs, alcohol, and anything else fun? Just long enough to get to goal?

Hi There, I went in for a slight fill today and was up 5 lbs. He took me from 3.15 to 3.18. Liquids still went down okay, just a second delay. I am hoping this curves my appetite and consumption. We shall see.

You know you have gotten to your sweet spot when you can get fuller on a smaller amount of food, your hunger doesn't come as fast and you are losing 1-2 lbs a week. For me it has always been hard for me to find.

Through my band journey I realized that it is possible not to have a sweet spot for some people. I just don't want you to feel like this is your fault if that is the case for you.

I know the feeling. I too have been up, down, up, down, 2 to 3 pounds, the same fricking pounds, for what seems like forever. Today, EVERYTHING I ate came back up. I don't have days like today very often, thank goodness. I am pretty discouraged at this point. I am weighing in at between 202 and 204 and soooooooo bad want to hit onederland but am really wondering if it will ever happen. I am way more active, exercise wise, than I ever have been and these same 2 to 3 pounds are really aggravating me.

Sorry, I just needed to "vent" I guess.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
