Tricare Prime Ins Coverage

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know if Tricare Prime Ins covers the fills that we need after initial surgery? It covered my surgery, but am wondering about my fills.

I have had 4 or 5 fills and only been charged my $12.00 copay. My Dr. just recently requires a Barium swallow before each fill, that is not covered by insurance. So I pay the $12.00 copay + $50.00 fee for the Barium Swallow.

If you have a fill without barium, it should only be your 12$ copay. I am Tricare Prime.

Why does Tricare only cover fills 1 year after surgery... What if I get pregnant and have to have an unfill! Will they not pay to have it refilled?

My Dr.s office said fills are covered. No time limit. Maybe that Dr. won't take insurance after 1 year for fills? (because of how little they pay)

My Barium Swallow: You stay dressed and stand in front of this large xray machine. They give you a little pill cup filled Barium (looks and kinda tastes like Milk of Magnesia). The turn the machine on, I can actually see my tummy and everything on the screen, they tell you to swallow and the Barium shows up on the screen. You actually see it go down to your pouch and then into your lower stomach. It coats everything, kinda like the old Pepto Bismol commercials. They watch to make sure your pouch hasn't stretched and also to see how fast the liquid goes through. My Dr. does this before he gives you a fill.

Hope this helps!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
