What does your liquid diet consist of.

Recommended Posts

I'm early in this process and still focused on the pre-op diet but my friend had it several months ago and I remember her favorite Soup is tomatoe and I know she ate it during the liquid (not clear, but next step) phase.

Congrats!

I was put on "full" liquids, not clear. I could have tea, coffee, skim milk, Water, broths, cream Soups, Tomato Soup, fat/sugar free popsicles, fat/sugar free Jello, and Protein Drinks. To ease me into the diet, the dietician told me I could have a small amount of lean Protein until four days before surgery, then only liquids. I had unbreaded chicken breast tenders (from Costco) or hardboiled eggs. I grilled two tenders and put salt and pepper on them, or two eggs with salt and pepper. I saved them for the evening when I tended to overeat the most. During the day I was hungry, but I was prepared to be, and I am busy at work so I didn't have too much time to think about it. I ended up doing it for 3 weeks because I caught a cold and my surgery was postponed a week, not enough time to stop and start again. I lost 25 lbs on it, plus the 10 I lost doing the 6 month diet required by insurance. Lost the rest since surgery 3/25/08.

Did you doctor tell you what kind of diet he/she wants you to follow? As you see from Patchelton's response, some allow carbs and some are very lenient and allow 2 Protein shakes and one meal per day or just require one or two days dieting prior to surgery. You should follow the diet your doctor wants.

Mine wanted me on liquid protein-very low carb pre-op. I was allowed Protein Shakes, chicken/beef broth, sugar free Jello, sugar free popsicles, low carb yogurt smoothies, low carb milk, crystal light. I am glad that I followed this diet. Carbs are my enemy and this diet got me off the roller-coaster of carb cravings. Now that I am post-op I don't have to watch my carbs so much but I still have not allowed myself starches or sugars because I don't want to go back to the hell of carb cravings.

All I know is liquid diet. I am still in the beginning phase of this journey, so I haven't gotten the list of things "to do" before surgery yet. I go for my referral appointment today, so hopefully I'll have my input meeting in the next week or two.

I'm starting my preop diet tomorrow. I'm allowed any liquids with single digit sugars and I can't go over 1000 cal/day. I bought a wide variety of things. Atkins shakes, 100% whey Protein from GNC in unflavored and chocolate caramel flavor, Kellogs K2O Water and All Bran tea packets, lots of sugar free Jello . I also bought Soups that I will blend and strain

My doctor wants me to do full liquids. Soups, popsicles, broth, Jello, cream of wheat, and Protein Shakes. But they only want the shakes to be less than 200 calories a serving and no more than 10 grams of sugar a serving. Also once a day I'm allowed 2 cups of any 1 of the following; gatorade, sherbert, pudding. Then the day before my surgery only Clear Liquids. Like popsicles, broth or bullion, apple juice, etc. And of course no eating after midnight the night before.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
