I may have my period at the time of surgery.

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled to have my surgery on July 14th--yea!!

But I think that I might have my period at the same time.

Has this happened to any of you? If so, how did it go?

Thanks,

Jane

This is a good thought. I too will be on my monthly when I have my surgery in 9 days. AF is due in 7 days. I will let them know. My periods are painful so maybe the pain of my period will mask any discomfort from surgery, LOLOL

Hey gals, I thought of this as well so I asked my Dr. and she said that I could skip the white pills in my birthcontrol for 3 packs, then take the white to have a period...also there are other ways to go, but ask your doctor... On the other hand, those meds will sure make it a pleasant one, right? Like they always say it's up to each of us, but it's good to know the options right? All the best!!!

Hi there. I was banded on 10/23/07 and I had my period at the time. Other than waking up with one of those silly hospital diapers on, it really didn't have any effect on me. I was concerned since I usually get Migraines with my period along with terrible cramps. I'm happy to report that I haven't had a Migraine or unbearable cramps since I was banded. Could be a coincidence but in any case, I'm thankful. Best of luck.

I was on mine when I was banded you just have to wear hospital undies with a pad. The surgery actually made my period last a few extra days but other than that no difference.

I should be starting either the day I go in for my surgery (7/9) or a day or two after. I'm hoping after. Wish I had know about the white pills sooner. I think I would have tried to work it so that I definitely didn't start until well after the surgery.

I also had my period the day of my surgery no big deal. I wore a over nite pad. The med's took care of my cramps and it was very lite i think due to the blood thinners they gave me.

Not a big deal they give me a pad and I used it w/out underwear. That's what happened to me.

I was on my period so I told the nurse. Right before they wheeled me into surgery they had me use the restroom to use a new tampon. Sorry for the TMI. They gave me the option of the diaper or new tampon.. I didnt want a diaper lol

No need to worry, its not that bad... just let them know... I did and they gave me special underwear and a pad and there was no mention of it after that. In fact I felt much more comfortable with the underwear if it wasn't for my period I wouldn't of been able to wear anything...

I had mine. It has been pretty minor since I had uterine fibroid embolization surgery. So, since I had day surgery, I changed my tampon right before surgery & then again when I got home.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
