eating lots of anything Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi. I am 5 weeks post op and have been on solid foods for a week or so.

I seem to be able to eat anything and lots of it! I lost 15 pounds on the liquid and mushies stage but have gained 4 back in the last week and a half. I'm hoping that this is normal? and when I have my first adjustment it will change things. Anyone else have this sort of thing happen?

I would really appreciate any feedback

Thanks

Dan:frown:

I too am able to eat anything, it is really affecting my weight loss. I am getting discouraged. I know the surgery is a tool, but I have not made strides much at all in the right direction. But I don't feel much restriction at all!

I did not feel any restriction after my surgery. I was careful to eat my protien every day and just tried to adjust to the new eating. I was never really starving just had the habit of eating too much. Anyway, I am now pretty set on what I eat and how much and it is working. I am very happy with my new eating routine. I can do this for the rest of my life if I don't get lazy and go back to the old ways. I was not happy then and I am now so keeping that in mind really helps me stay on track. I don't want to be fat!!

I am so happy to hear that it is working for you...we have close to the same surgery date. You are much more advanced than I am:thumbup:

Dan, what you are experiencing is quite normal. I gained 7 lbs between fills one time. You will lose it once you gain restriction with your fills. Be patient. Sometime it takes a few. Good luck and congrats on your surgery and weight loss.

I was banded on June 5th....tomorrow is my one month anniv..woohoo and I have lost 18lbs...my prob is that sometimes I feel no restriction and others I can barely get a meal down. I don't eat near what I did before...maybe like a 1/4, but I was wondering why I might be having restriction while others don't? Does this mean I don't need a fill until I have no restriction or where do I go from here?

I too have restriction right now. I can barely get all my liquids down. I just had my 2 week appointment and the nutritionist said 1 out of every 10 people she has seen with lapband didnt't need a fill for at least their 1st 6 months. May be I will be on of those lucky ones.

I have restriction, well .... some what. I can eat pretty much whatever food I want ( have not tried bread yet ) but the trick with me is... its 1 cup of food or less. And im not putting crap in my body. I was banded may 21st and i have no fill. Also I can drink a lil faster then i bet they want me to with no problems. I sometimes gulp when I just got done walking or working out. Best of luck to you... just work out and dont put crap in ur body!

I have be banded since 5/23 and have really no restriction. I did well on liquids but am having trouble with real food. I still wonder how you measure 1 cup with things like salad or cherries. Any suggestions would REALLY HELP. Scheduled for first fill 7/11.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
