Okay...In all honesty..I could give a rats behind about eatting right now. I am two days post op...banded May 5th...I can't deal with these "darn" staples! I was told to leave the bandaides on till Sunday, which is only tomorrow...but they itch! I soo badly want to take the bandaides off now to check my wounds. I think I really need more sleep tonight! I am cranky and fussy and I feel like a whinner! I don't like to whine!! Im almost afraid of my new self...well, myself with an addition. Did anyone else feel like that? I just dont know what to expect I guess. Thanks for listening!!!

Oh yeah! I remember the staples. Like you, mine stayed itchy and red - and irritated the heck out of me. I was supposed to leave them until my 1 week check up... HA! We must have some type of sensitivity to them - because most people never really "notice" them. Dabbing vit. E oil on them may help.

Oh - and welcome to Bandland!

No staples for me either, but boy can I whine. When I had another type of surgery, they used steri-strips, and I must be allergic to the glue, or the tape or something, because wow did I get one heck of an itchy, bumpy rash. Strangly enough, the glue that was used for my banding was just fine. (I don't think I could have stood that again!)

So, whine away, I know the feeling.

Once the cuts are closed- Vitamin e should be fine. If they are leaky or open then you would want to be more careful with it.

I had staples too and only kept bandaids on them to keep them from catching my clothes. The came out after a week and OH, the relief! Don't worry, this is just a temporary stage and will all be a distant memory soon...

I got the strips too. I think I was allergic to the glue too. I got tiny little rash bumps from the adhesive in the strips. I pulled those things off as soon as they started to loosen. Talk about itch! I sure am glad that's over. Once my incisions were closed completely and started to get a slight scab in some areas, I concocted a little salve for them. I use pure shea butter, a little Vitamin e oil and lavender essential oil. Not only does it keep them from itching while they are still healing, but it should minimize the scarring. Be sure to keep in mind that whatever the doctor used to close you up, it won't be there too long.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
