As of June 25th, my 4 month Bandiversary, I have lost 24 stinkin' pounds. I have had 1 fill, 3ccs in a 10 cc band.

Ok girls, I need some moral support here. I want to impolitely stab my surgeon in the head with an ice pick about now. Yesterday I went, for what I assumed would be, my second fill and he wouldn't do it! He said I was losing around a pound a week, slow and steady wins the race, you're the tortoise not the hare, blah, blah, blah and I was honestly too stunned and defeated to argue with him about it. I did try to explain to him that the weight I've lost was all in the first 6 weeks and I've been GAINING weight for the last three but he wouldn't even listen to me. He just kept going by the average and said when people coerce him into fills they always come back begging to have saline removed in a couple of days.

:tt2::thumbup::cool2::tt2::mad2::thumbup::mellow: I also told him that I can eat anything now, with no restriction whatsoever and he said, "Well, you come back in two months and if you've lost less than eight pounds I will CONSIDER a fill." At the rate I'm going, I will have gained all of my weight back by then! I am so freakin' depressed that I could give up.

Ugh, that is so ridiculous. I'm sorry you have to put up with that Gibson! I would make another appointment and go back in and DEMAND a fill. My doctor tried to pull that crap on me and I explained to him that I lacked restriction and was eating more, not full as long, etc., and he gave in. I wasn't supposed to go back until August but I've been struggling for the last month or so and I'm going in on Monday. I will not take no for an answer because I didn't go through all of this to essentially be on a diet and neither should you! If he isn't helping you out, is there any possibility of seeing a different doctor or going to a fill center?

Wonder where he's getting his averages from? Judging from this forum most of us have have 2-4 fills. You can definately tell when you have restriction. I think I'm almost at my sweet spot now. You can try to take a firmer hand with your doctor or possibly you can show him this forum. LOL Will he do a fill with flouro or however you spell that? Then he could see the restriction for himself. I think it's good to go slow with the fills but every 4-6 weeks is more than enough time to adapt. Wonder if there's some national database or statistics on fill rates?

Hey girl,

It sounds like you really need to switch doctors. I think this is ridiculous that your doctor is doing this to you. Is it your doctor who does the fills or do you go to a separate fill center? I'm not sure how other doctors work, but I go to a separate place for my fills and I can come in every 3-4 weeks if I choose. It's between me and the fill person and they basically just ask me if I need a fill. My doctor is never involved, except I have to go see him every few months so he can check on me. Perhaps you should pick a doctor who does this as well. It wouldn't hurt to call around and see what you can do. But don't give up.. we love you and we are here for you. Once you do get that restriction everything will work out hun..

Huggs!

Oh Gibson..I'm so sorry you're dealing with that. It's SUCH BS!!That happened to me and I ended up politely arugueing with my doc and he ended up giving me 1cc that day. The fact that you have to wait so long in between fills doesn't make any sense!! Also, it's not just about losing the pounds. If you are hungry all the time and not getting satiated after 6-9 bites of food that means you need a fill. I would go back and have a conversation with your doc. I know that some doc's are more conservative than others but this is ridculous!! I totally understand why you would be feeling blue...but I promise you it will get better! I hope you can get back in to see your doc and hopefully get the fill you need. Hang in there....we're all here for you!!

:)

Gibson.

This is your body and you know how much you eat and the Dr. doesn't come to dinner with you so he needs to just be quiet. Kick him in his shins continously until he agrees to give you a fill.

Good luck. I'm sorry you have to put up with that. Don't get depressed - get mad and find yourself another Dr.

Hi all!!

It's been awhile since I posted but that pesky little thing called life has been kicking me in my arse lately.

Stopped in to see how everyone was doing and saw another great thread by gibson.

My band anniversary date is the 25th and I've lost 29 pounds. Have another fill today and I don't know if it's my fourth or fifth.

I haven't been the best bandster and I have to recommit myself, and hopefully seeing that everyone else that got banded at the same time is really doing well, will be my motivation to get my butt back in gear.

Forgot what a great motivational tool this site is!!!

Welcome back! I've missed the dancin' Megan. You're sure right about this site. I have to check in about 4 times a day. It keeps me focused on the goal and how to get there. Will be nice to see your sweet face around here again.

Wow this is really embarrasing..Feb. 11 th is my band anniversary and basically have not lost any weight. Have good restriction in the a.m. but give in to easily to the goodies at night. Have had two fills and at about 2 ccs in a 10 cc HP band. When I follow the bandster rules do well but am so inconsistant after reading your posts will get my butt in gear and recomitt to this. My Dr. would give me a fill but really don't think that is what I need. Am down about 30 lbs. from pre op until now, I know very sad. Am happy for all of you doing so well keep it up and will soon hope to be one of you. DESERTS ARE MY ENEMY!!!

Hugs,

Dawnie

Oh, Honey, get yourself in for a fill, and make it a big one!!! I'm at 7.5cc in a 10cc band. Your doctor is waaaaayyyyy too conservative. You're doing this almost completely on your own! I'm going in tomorrow for another small fill, my 6th. You shouldn't be hungry in the evenings if you have proper restriction. Sometimes I'm hungry on the way home from work, but 3 or 4 ounces of grilled fish, and I'm done for the night. That's how it should be if your band is working property. If it's not, that's the doc's fault, not yours.

I have lost 57 pounds and have 5 cc's on a 10 cc band. So far, so good !! I have pretty good restriction right now (it was better a month ago) and do not go back for a fill until the end of August - I went last week for my monthly check up and we agreed everything was going fine and to hold off on another fill.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
