November Nymphs Summer Meltdown Challenge

Recommended Posts

Wendy, you're doing great! I'm eating too much lately. I may need a small fill after all. My next appt is in 2 weeks. I'll get it then if the scale doesn't move.

yeah, you go Sades! We'll show them once our bands work. We thought we were slow losers, ha! Imagine what we'll do when we get restriction!

It's got to feel good to finally see that scale go down.

I'm hanging on until my surgery and then plan to join the next challenge. I'm sure there'll be a Fall challenge of some kind.

If it doesn't take too may fills to get us to restriction, then we might still have a chance to get close to goal by our one year bandiversary!

That's it. I'm getting a fill! I can eat way too much lately before feeling full. I hate getting fills and going through the liquids and mush foods until food goes through without getting stuck. It takes me a month before I feel almost normal. But if you guys could face another surgery with such class and determination, I should be able to deal with a small fill without whining!

Cindy,

The restriction you dread is what Sades and I have been waiting for all these seven months. Funny how the grass is always greener on the other side. Just ask for a tiny fill. When I think of how many times I asked just for tiny fill because I didn't want to be too tight only to never reach restriction.

I do understand tho' I never want to be too tight.

That's one of the things about the fills and how I lost most of the weight, liquids and soft foods after and being careful to try foods for fear of getting stuck, so use the fill and the whole after fill process to your advantage!

You're right, Judy. I always lose a good amount right after a fill. On my last 2 monthly visits with the nurse at my doc's office, we decided not to fill because I get stuck too easily. Some episodes were truly horrible and painful. But I only lost 4 pounds last month and nothing for 2 weeks. I'm noticing that I can easily eat a full portion of food and then some before feeling full. That tells me its time. I just really need to focus on taking tiny bites and chewing a lot. Never been a strength of mine.

Cindy, Four pounds in one month is good this far out after surgery and I would be happy with that. It's not good to get too tight and risk a band slip, so be careful.

I've never had to chew my food to death yet, so it's hard to relate, but that is why I hope I can lose the rest of my weight with light restriction as I really don;t want to be too limited and when you have to chew that much it doesn't even taste like food anymore.

I'm sure you know what's the right thing to do.

We get in a hurry to get this whole battle over with, but really they tell us that this should be a two year journey. Many people get to goal faster of course, but what's the point if you can't live and eat somewhat normally, just less.

I'm fine with being a slow loser, if the last ten pounds takes me a whole year, I don't really care. Ten pounds is a drop in the overall bucket.

I think you're weight loss is great. Do you exercise?

Thanks Judy, I know I should be happy with 50 pounds but it feels like its dragging. I barely exercise because I had neck surgery last year. I had 2 discs repaired because of a car accident. I was hit from behind really hard in Sept. '03. I haven't been active since that day and really started to put the weight on. Even walking a lot hurts my neck and shoulders. I have an elleptical that I use a bit. I think I may look into Water aerobics like Cindy and Sades does as it is low impact. I have to find a place around here that offers it.

I'm anxious to get into the 100's and out of the 2's. I think a small fill will get me over the border. If it's too tight, I could always get an unfill. I have noticed in the past 2 weeks that I can eat a lot more than usual.

:w00t: Not hard to lose weight when you are drinking a few cups of Fluid a day... can't wait to eat some real food again. I keep looking at the mandarines and pears in the kitchen as I walk by and I instinctively want to pick one up, so weird.

It definitely does Judy... this is the weight I should have lost previously so it's just catch up right now.

The way things are right now, I'm feeling very confident that I will be very close to goal by then... of course I haven't taken bandsters hell into consideration!

Not being able to exercise does make it harder. I didn't exercise at all from my surgey in November until May, but once I started walking ( I was walking some before surgery and then stopped after surgery) it made a difference.

Spring was when I stopped losing, not having restriction, but the walking stopped any weight gain and actually I have lost a few more pounds.

Water aerobics would be great, especially during these hot summer months!

You're an experienced and successful bandster, you know what to do to get to where you want to be.

Another pound, Sades?!! Forget getting another fill! I want a whole new band!!

Just kidding... Actually the next surgery I want is a Tummy Tuck when I get close to goal. Maybe by next spring if I get back on track. I'm going to try and get a fill next week.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
