Wasa, I am glad you are on the mend! I will think in my mind that I am sending you the 10 lbs from my surplus! My dr. office just announced that they are going to be offering the sleeve...too funny considering I just got banded and 1 week later here is the "new" thing there...LOL I am sure I will do well with the band.

I will be interested to hear about your progress and still would love to meet up with you some time...I met Denise at her last visit here!

Take care, Shelley

If I could take your surplus, I would! Not that gaining a few pounds is a big deal, it isn't. But white carbs... it's a head thing for me. I'm soooo anti-white carbs (for me only) that it's hard getting through the mindset. I worked so hard to overhaul my diet and change eating habits. White carbs are my trigger foods and to intentionally set out to eat the stuff really is quite hard. I feel like I'm going to fall into old habits again.

I can't wait to meet you! You should have gone shopping with Denise and me a few weeks ago, would'a been fun.

Wasa, I'm glad you are doing well! Your weight loss results from lapband were phenomenal, so I'm sorry you had to have it removed but I happy you found another procedure. I wish you the best and sincerley hope you will be sticking around here. You have given some great advice here. Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery.

There is a little piece of me that is afraid to be without my band. I KNOW that worked for me although it was a hard journey in my case. I keep thinking ... what if the sleeve doesn't do the trick? But, I think it will.

I was on liquids for so long I kinda got used to it over the past 3 months and now that I know things are fixed and after the post op diet I can eat real food again it's triggering a thing in my brain. Now head hunger is coming out in full force. I have no Ghrelin so I have no hunger now with a sleeve. But seriously, who needs Ghrelin when my head is telling me I'm hungry? ;o)

My friend's grandma (KittenQutie) is from the south and she's promised me my favorite foods, Southern fried chicken and mashed potatoes on 7/4. That's all I think about. A chicken wing is about all that will fit in my new tube stomach. Makes me wonder how long it will take to eat a single meal in the beginning? It should be trippy to find out! HA! Actually, I can't wait to find out. I'm telling you, if it takes me all day to eat a piece of chicken, so be it! I'll do it. I want real food!

Hi, Wasa,

I've been having the same problems as you for about 5 months. The test show that my opening is okay. I have gastritis and esophagitis (sp). The doctor says to chew better. Right!!! I am presently at 116 lbs. I can't keep much down, although, I am staying at the same weight (don't know how that is posible). I have feel, unfill, fill, unfill, and on and on. Could I ask how much it costs to convert over to the sleeve? Thank you for coming on and telling all. It gives me hope. Cheryl

It costs a lot. ;o)

In Mexico it was $12,500. But well worth every single penny. Thing is, the longer you put it off and don't do anything about it the more damage to your esophagus, that means permanent and forever.

Revision surgery is more expensive than an original procedure. It's far more difficult to do and not just any band surgeon can do a revision safely. It takes a ton of skill with staple lines. Doing a staple line on a scarred stomach (banded) is not easy and carries a great deal more risk of perforations, bleeding, infection, leaks, etc. It takes longer, there is more OR time, it requires more skill, it results in more pain and a harder recovery. But I think it is safer than going on the way I was. I'm tired of fighting band issues, I'm tired of trying to force it to work when in my case, it just wasn't healthy.

But it was a choice, continue living as I was, removing the band and gaining weight, or going for it. I decided to go for it and am thrilled that I did.

Wasa,

Thank you for your reply. A couple of questions. I don't believe that much of my food/drink makes it to my stomache. It seems to stay in the esopagus (sp). If the tests show that the stoma is open and I chew well, why would it not go down? I don't have any acid reflux, it just comes back up. I've been banded for 2 1/2 years and have lost 90 lbs. Also, why wouldn't I continue to lose weight if a majority (if not all) of my food stays in the esopagus? Another thing, I had a TT March 30th. My problem had started in Dec 07. Thanks, again.

Cheryl

I was wondering where you went to Wasa. I missed you.

I really value your input on Protein. You really helped me and I hope the Sleeve works well for you and you will be able to eat real food again. I wish you the best of luck.

But not all the mods, eh? (wink wink nudge nudge)<wink wink="" nudge="">

My post op diet is 10 days of clears, 10 of fulls, 10 soft, then regular food.< /p>

I'm at 8 days, I just ate 16 chickens, a ham, a pound of taffy, and a fifth of rum.

Did I hurt my staple line?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I couldn't resist! ;o)))

It's soooo tempting to go to the newbie section and post some questions....</wink>

Ha! Don't forget the case of Mt. Dew!

Wasa - you finally did it woman!! wahoooooo~!! I remember you talking about this a long time ago . I also did research on it, but my insurance wouldn't cover it, and my new band is working for me, though I do hate going to get the fills and all that.

You mentioned a person ragging on you about it, well, the lap band police need to just get over it. I'm so sick and tired of people getting so easily offended on this forum over anything that can be misconstrued as going against the band... even when it's NOT.

We all have different bodies and different problems and sometimes the band doesn't work, and a lot of times it seems to be the folks who got the older band (the 4cc one) because they seemed to be too tight and have more slips (I'm sure that statement will piss some off, but oh well, it's what I've seen, read and heard for the last two years). Disclaimer: yes, I know there are poeple with 4cc bands who've had no problems. yes, I know there are people with newer bands who have had problems. (it sucks I even have to write this in, but, well, you know all too well how it is).

It's your fricking body and you can do what you want to with it and you're right about the "chew more"... when you have the issues that you had with the band, it doesn't matter what you swallow or the consistency, you will have problems.

So, I'm very happy that you were able to get this procedure. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL! I don't blame you. I can't imagine being on liquids for 3 months.

For me, head hunger is the hardest thing about this. It has gotten better but I still struggle with it everyday, especially since I don't have very good restriction right now. Have you always had head hunger issues? Does it get a lot better once you hit your sweet spot? I'm hoping it does.

Anyway, I'm so proud of all you have accomplished. Sounds like you had a rough time getting there, but you did it! To me, that's a real inspiration. Many people give up when complications occur and I commend you for sticking with it and kicking butt! Best of luck to you!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I am sorry that you had so much trouble with the band, but I'm glad it is resolved now. I like to know there is an option if I have further trouble with my band, but $12,500 is a little steep as I was self-pay. But, it is invaluable in the end. Keep us posted and stay healthy!

My tests showed the same thing until one day he caught it on fluoro. Turns out it was stoma spasms. I'd be fine for a couple of bites and then BAMMO, my stoma would go into spasm and nothing would stay down. Could that be the case for you?

This is why I got a sleeve, no more stoma!

I suspect that more is going down than you realize. When food comes back up it is mixed with saliva and makes it look like more than it really is. Could food be going down and just some of it be coming back up?

Everyone here is so sweet. I kinda half expected a bit of negativity about revising to another procedure so this is really nice. Thank you.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
