Since no one in ND has posted, I'm hoping this will help us if we have an ND lurker out there. I am in Bismarck and starting to meet with St. A's next week. I understand today - April 27 - is the day the proctor is here to train the surgeon. I wanted this surgery 2 years ago (when my sister had WLS) but hesitated because I have to self-pay. Hoping to be banded late May - I'm eternally optimistic. Hope to hear from someone else in ND

Hi Road Queen, I'm not from ND but I am from SD. I was banded April 21 and I'm doing great. Alittle sore yet and still on liquids but other than that ok. Good luck finding a doctor, I hope you find a great one.

My dr in Bismarck ND is Dr. Mike Schmit at St Alexius medical center. I know he does fills on people who were bonded elsewhere. There are also dr. in Minneapolis that the Minnesota people can give you the names and drs in SD.

If you decide to come to Bismarck, let me know and maybe we can get together. I don't know anything about the tickers. Haven't tried that yet.

Good luck getting your fill and losing weight.

Alatina,

let me know when you are there and how to get ahold of you and I will certainly come visit. That will be fun.

I saw you posted on the Vegas site about coming to the bash. FYI, you would probably fly out of Grand Forks or Fargo, however, another option would be checking on Allegiant Airlines. They fly out of Bismarck, Sioux Falls (probably too far away), St. Cloud and some other cities. They are a charter operation that flies directly to Las Vegas from these towns on specific days. For example, they fly out of Bismarck Friday and Monday afternoons. Returns are Friday and Monday morning. I don't know what the price is right now - probably around $200 roundtrip but they do run specials.

I will email you more about this when I return to the U.S.

Sonja,

Yes, i am also a Dr. Schmit patient. You are having great results. I have been on a stall. I didn't get my first fill because I went to Liberia Africa for 2 weeks and I was too nervous about the food situation. And the food available wasn't wonderful and there was not alot of options.

I am getting my first fill in the morning. Do you go to the monthly meetings? Maybe we can meet at the August meeting or something.

I am waiting to get back on track and away from the bad stuff. I lost about 20 pounds initially and I am just holding there. But I am not gaining.

Glad to hear from a fellow Bismarck bandster. Keep me posted on what is going on with you. Celeste

Celeste~

You are doing fine. I didn't really get going till this last fill. I have had 2 fills now and this last one really kicked in. Did you go to the picnic on Saturday? I wanted to go, but I was afraid there were no bandsters there. I would love to meet with you. When is the next support group meeting? I know they are going to have them mixed now, I ran into Jean at the last appointment I had and she told me they were opening the support groups up to bandsters too. I see you work at the state, so do I. It is so nice to talk to someone who is from here.

Did you have a good experience with Dr. Schmit?

I am from North Dakota. I am set to be banded on August 30 in TJ Mexico. I considered Dr. Schmit, but the $$ and experience led me to Mexico. Glad to see other North Dakotans here!

Glad to see that more ND people are joining in bandland. This site is a wealth of information as you are healing and going through the process. No matter how well prepared you are, there are always questions.

Welcome to Bandland.

Hey all~

I'm from North Dakota too. I actually went with the GB Procedure, and did find a doctor in Mexico also. But I still cannot come up with the financing part. So I recently start gathering info and contacting patients who had the Lapband Procedure. I'm so glad I found this site and that they have people from ND actually here. LOL. I did notice that some are getting banded in MX. I've been a frequent lurker to the South of the Border Forum at Obesity Help for some time and did come in contact with a few of the patients who did have their lapband there. I'm also happy to hear that there is a Surgeon here in ND who will do the fills on patients who get their bands elsewhere. It was one of my main worries.

Anywho, I'm glad I found this site. I hope to get to know you all. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
