Which weight loss surgery book would you recommend buying, if any? I am getting a lot of info from this site and other sites. I was wondering if the books offered anything new that I am not learning or will not receive from my surgeon or nutritionist.

I got WLS for Dummies and I was less than impressed.

1) I did a lot of research too so there wasn't a lot in there I hadn't already learned.

2) They tend to lump all WLS together. Sometimes they remember to say "oh, lap band patients won't get dumping" but sometimes they don't. So it's hard to know how accurate the info is going to be for me when I have my surgery.

That is one I was considering. Marking that one off my list now. Thanks!

I've read lapband for life written by Dr. Ariel Ortiz or performs lapband surgery in Mexico. It's very informational and I found it very interesting. Also I'm in the process of reading Khalia Ali's biography about her experience with lapband. Hope this helps!

I have "Weight-Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band" by Robert W. Sewell. It was quite informative.

For recipes, I found "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" by Patt Levine & Michele Bontempo-Saray. The recipes sound yummy. They also give portion sizes for how many weeks after surgery you are, calories, Protein etc.

Hi, my nutritionist suggested Lap Band for Life. It can be bought from Amazon.com. I also bought the companion book as well. They should be here any day now. Grama Lisa

I read Khalia Ali's book and thought it was really good, but I also like my WLS for Dummies. My doctor's office recommended Before and After by Susan Maria Leach, but I didn't find it very beneficial, mainly because she had GBP.

Hello,

My psych doctor gave me a list of books. I haven't read any of them yet. I'm all about budget, so i'm checking them out from my local library. here's the list:

mindless eating by brian wansink

the emotional first + aid kit by cynthia ??

WLS for dummies

eating well after WLS

exodus from obesity: the guide to long term success after WLS

anyone read any of these? (that hasn't already been noted above).

Joni

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
