Calorie counting and food intake log

Recommended Posts

I know this may sound crazy but how do you log your food intake/calories if you dont work/live the normal 9-5 job. I am a RN and work nights (7p-7a) but try to keep a day schedule when I am not working due to family. I am up then sometimes over 24 hours several times a week. I asked my nutritionist about it but she didnt know what to do but to spread out my calories??

My options are - awake to when I go to sleep, 7a-7a, midnight to midnight.

I always measure my calories for a 24 hour period. It doesn't matter if you go from 7 am to 7 pm, or midnight to midnight, as long as you are consistent.

:closedeyes:Hi Sarah,

I am new and am just getting started. I went to my seminar last night and see my surgeon in August. But I too am a nurse a Lpn for 26 years and work 7p-7a. I have the same thoughts as you. How did you do on liquids and the different stages you as far as food and work. I dont know about you but sometimes it gets so crazy you hardly have time to stop. People do not sleep at night even though it is night. I work on a med surgical floor/NICHE so wondered how you did starting out and progressed. Thanks, I also thought when I was exploring the sites one for nurses but can't find it. I am 46 and excited about getting on with my new begining.

Hi Sarah

I don't have any advice but just wanted to let you know there is a thread for nurses so maybe someone there has solved this issue for themselves and can help.

Hey Sarah,

You just need to determine what meal is Breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are 2 sites that I know of that are online and free and you can access them 24/7. They are fit day and sparkpeople (I use the spark site). This has helped me to stay accountable for my calorie intake. You will do fine. You can use the system on your breaks if you don't have access to the computer during your shift. Best of Luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
