Hi: I had surgery on March 27. I'm 54 years old and was the first one to have the surgery by this Doctor and in this hospital. He's a superb Doctor and took a lot of training by the best, so I wasn't worried. I was hurting more than I thought after surgery, but recovered fast and was back to work in a week in a Doctor's office as a secretary/receptionist. I lost 16 pounds in a week and only drank four ounces every four hours of liquid. After that week, I felt very nervous and stressed that I wasn't doing well, because my weight loss slowed down. I lost eleven pounds in the next 3 weeks. The next month was even slower, and I lost only six pounds, and I seem hungrier faster. I'm now in my third month, and wonder if I need some saline inserted. I have always been tall (5ft.9inches) and weighed more than most because I am a big girl, but gained the "ugly" weight after a hysterectomy at the age of 30. I work for a psychiatrist in WV and had my surgery done in Princeton, WV. I'm happy to be able to chat with people who have also had this surgery. :P

I'm a newbie at lapbandtalk.com, I have yet to be banded, I am waiting on my insurance to approve the surgery...I have been on this site for a few months and just looking at some of the folks who have been banded..Shouldn't you have had a fill by now?????? I would talk with the doctor who did the surgery...

My doctor usually does saline fills after six weeks, so I wouldn't be surprised that you need one now. Did your doctor give you any guidelines on when you would need your first fill?

Congrats on being banded!

It does sound like you need a fill but as far as your weightloss it sounds like you've done great. Though many lose fast in the first few months, you shouldn't be discouraged if you only lose 1 - 2 pounds per week which is supposed to be the norm. Adding exercise will also help you lose faster if that is what you are aiming for.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Your weight loss stahl may be because your metabolism is in shock. You are now eating a considerable less amount of calories and so your body is saying "HEY!!!"

And as mentioned above losing 1-2lbs a week is effective. It is also proven to be effective for permanent weight loss. :P

Keep up the hard work!!!

Deb

Hi..I see the Dr. this Monday, and will ask for a fill, but he seems reluctant to do this. I will let you know, and good luck to you...I will never regret having it done. jlg1019

Yes, the "exercise" reminder...I try to tell myself that you don't need that...but you're right...I lose more when I walk my mile or two a day. I have also bought some small weights as I'm older and getting "loose" skin as I loose. Thanks, jlg1019

Hello jlg1019. I worked at the hospital in Princeton, WV for 25 years. I know the doc that did your surgery. As you stated he is a superb doc. Congrats on your surgery and weight loss. :P

I'm sure your doctor will give you a fill. If you are losing weight slower and are hungry more often, that's a good indicator that you need a fill. 6-8 weeks post op seems to be the norm for a first fill. If he doesn't want to fill you, I'd ask why and what the port is for then. It's an adjustable band meant to be adjusted as needed. LOL

I was banded on 3/18/08 and have lost 25 pounds. I have my first adjustment on June 6th. I lost weight so quickly at the beginning and then it slowed down and I haven't lost that much this month. I'm a little nervous about the first fill. Does it hurt? I'm worried I still won't lose weight even after a fill...I think I have a complex.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
