Recommended Posts

I am not going to drink one now.. only two weeks out from my banding..

I cannot wait until I can enjoy a glass of wine also. My doctor said it would be ok to have an occasional drink or a glass of wine without it affecting my weight loss. I am going to wait another two weeks until I am on solids before I attempt to drink wine though. I have three more days of liquids, then mushies for two weeks. I'll enjoy my wine then. June 28th is almost a month away, so you should be fine. Good luck.

I was told by my doctor not to drink alcohol for a year after being banded. After that in moderation.

I was told that wine is fine after you are off pain meds, but I would wait a few weeks at least after surgery. It doesn't do any harm to the lapband or stomach, the harm is if you over-indulge to the point of throwing up or giving in to temptation to eat too much and/or the wrong things.

I drank about 3 months po and it was wine. My dr said that 1 glass of wine is fine and it actually can help clear out any mucus that might be blocking the stoma.

my dr said not to drink alcohol for at least 6 months, then he said, if you choose to drink alcohol remember it's absorbed in your stomach first and since it will sit in your pouch you will get drunk a lot faster. So just be careful, and remember that it's liquid calories. I had a glass of wine about 8 weeks out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
