Happy Holidays Everyone!

I had my 2nd fill yesterday and I finally feel like I have a band inside me! After feeling absolutely nothing after my first fill, I was beginning to worry he forgot to put one in there! LOL

I now have 5cc in my 10cc band, but my doc says most people need to get up to at least 7cc before it begins to work. I was just curious if this was the case with yours?

WOOHOO!! don't you love that it's working?? I have the larger band that is 14cc's and it took me 8 fills and one slight unfill to get to my 'sweet spot' however I felt it working throughout the journey, but as I lost weight it loosened up. I am at 10.5 cc's in my band but everyone is different, don't compare your's to anyone else's. Go with how it feels for you and the restriction you feel. I am at the higher end of the spectrum in number of fills it has taken, others, including our Janet here, only needed one or two fills. EACH BAND AND PERSON IS DIFFERENT! Can't stress that enough.

Came in to strip off the Under Armour and a couple of layers. To warm with all those clothes on and running up and down the bin stairs.

Janet...nope, no Stein Marts in Minnesota. Closest is DeMoines, Iowa. Looked on their site and it looks like you could find yourself a Christmas top there. They had some sparkles even.

Apples - I think when I get back to work going to look up an ortho doc on my ppo.. I had leg workout tonite - it was bothering me a little in Walmart this afternoon - but at the gym it was fine and is fine now... I am not a surgery person - but I guess I better get it ck'd out.

Oh ya forgot to tell you all - Andrew & I visited Santa when we were at the mall - we were walking by and I said Andrew want to take a picture - he said ya - shock the Sh*t out of me - so we had one taken - then I was trying on new tennis shoes and went to pay for them and he pulled out his card and said - I got it.. Another shocker!!! I told him - Andrew that's my Xmas present - and while we were at walmart he got sweats and I said - I was getting them for xmas - he said LaLa - it's fine - we all have enough stuff.. I got a pretty good kid 99% of the time - I am truly blessed

you are truly blessed and Andrew is very handsome.

So nice to feel some restriction...especially with the holidays coming up:scared2:. Hopefully this will do it for you. As Great said, we are all so different and difficult to compare to what someone else has for fills. I, myself, have only had 2 fills and very little in a 14cc band. But, my fills came after most of my weightloss and think that makes a huge difference in the # of fills a person needs.

Good evening, just got home from my pre op check up appt to get clearance for my knee surgery. They just called and said my potassium is los and I need to take some OTC potassium pills. Jut curious what causes that? Could it be band related? anyone know? I will resume my volunteering tomorrow at the hospital unless we get the snowstorm they are predicting and the roads are bad so will try and ask then as well. I know when I used to have high b/p and took a Water pill I had to take potassium as it depleted my potassium but I don't take anything for blood pressure now since it returned to normal with my weight loss

Glad to see you back :0) !!!

Great - gives Great advice - we all are so very diff - what works for me doesn't work for anyone else..

I have large ap band - 3 fills - the last one 1/08 had all but .01 taken out - I think I have an even 4.8 cc - 1st fill 9/07 never asked how much he put in 2nd fill 11/07 again never asked then 1/08 put in 1 cc so I had 5.8 then took all that out so I have 4.9 - I don't remember what my weight was but most likely 190's or high 180's and haven't needed one since..

You aren't getting enough in your diet - so ya a little band related - spinach - bananas - dates are all good for potassium - I hope they told you how much to take.

Hey guys,

Just checking in. I keep waiting to try to catch up before I post. I wanted to write a long note and say a bit to each and every one of you. Well, it seems that it's not going to happen. There just hasn't been enough time in the day. I read the last two posts- does that count?

Apples~ Stay warm. Loved the pic of you and Great.

Great~ Low K+ (potassium) is usually caused by poor nutrition, medications (like you mentioned, diuretics or cortisone), or lost by an overactive GI tract (ie. when you have diarrhea). There are a few weird diseases that can cause it (cushings, etc.)- doubt that is your case. Trauma patients can also have low K+ due to a "cellular shift". You are too far out from your surgery really for this reason. Most probably b/c of your diet. Up the usual potassium rich foods. (bananas, citrus, broccoli, spinach, Lima Beans, potatoes) you can google it for more. It was probably a fasting lab and you were dehydrated.

I have been so busy with catching up here at home.. unpacking, laundry, Christmas decorating, Nelson back at school. And keeping track of my Dad's health. He's not doing too good since last Monday's Chemo #1. Been real weak, difficulty swallowing, retractable hiccups, pain, dehydrated. He went in Monday for Chemo #2 and they canceled it b/c his kidney function tests were really out of whack and he was dehydrated. He met with the kidney dr today and he said that he doesn't think his kidney will tolerate too much chemo but they will see in a couple days if it rebounds. They are pretty down. Dad said "I have two dead end streets and I need to decide which one to turn down". Basically that neither choice is good- chemo= bad quality of life with symptoms and no chemo= earlier death. lose/lose. I find comfort in the words of you all that have been through this before. It is never easy. I switch between a peaceful acceptance and being really sad and angry. I know it's all normal, it's just that CANCER SUCKS.

On a positive note, I didn't gain/lose over Thanksgiving. DH gained 10 pounds in the last two weeks, so that will tell you how it's been. I feel my band has been doing its job. I am not being too hard on myself. I wish I were losing but am ok with staying the same. The 5k I was supposed to run is Saturday. I am bummed that it isn't going to happen this time for me, but there is always another one around the corner.

Hope everyone else is ok... talk to you later. peasout~ Laura

Oh Laura....I know things are really difficult for you right now. It's all so hard to accept and wrap your mind around what is going on with your dad. I am sure leaving him was tough but being at home gives your family a little break at this time. Been thinking of you.

You have done to maintain the weight you are at through all this turmoil. Pat yourself on the back for that. You photos look so good. You look as if you have lost inches even though your scale has not gone down.

Great...you should really get some medical advice on what you should be doing to get your potasium. Too much or too little are dangerous. Maybe Phyll has some advice on that. I would surely ask your doc what your numbers are and go with his advice on what to do.

Janet...b/4 you buy stuff to make fudge, give a little time to post the other couple of variations and you can make them all at one time. I just don't have time in the next hour or two as I am still babysitting the corn dryers.

thanks for the potassium advice! No my blood test wasn't fasting. However, I have had ummmm, very loose stools for a few days. While taking the vicodin for my knee pain it constipated me so much, I started taking Miralax and colace every night. Well I stopped the vicodin a couple weeks ago but not the miralax, so possibly I loosened myself up too much! LOL I have not taken any of it for a few days. However the foods listed I do not eat much of, so maybe will go get some bananas, DD is picking me up some otc potassium all she said on the phone when I asked her about strength is 99?? I don't know what the levels were, she just said slightly low.

Laura, so sorry it's not going well for your dad. Yes cancer sucks! Your new pic in your signature looks great!

Janet, are you meaning snail mail addresses or email addresses??

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
