Just a quick fly by before we leave for the airport....

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU ALL!! I wish for you all the love and sweetness your kids can give you on your special day.

We're pretty much ready to go....just working on a graduation card for the nephew. Graduation is on Mother's Day....I wonder if they planned that.

Talk to you all next week.

Eva

Charlene, We have about a month and a half before she moves. So, you know kids, "got lots of time" I'm just going with the flow, throwing in suggestions when the time is right.

Julie, keeping you in my thoughts, hope you can get some relief.

Arlene, add me as a FB friend, I'm easy to find, my name is so different - Linda Vilcone - I'll be the only one - anyone else here can add me as well.

Janet, that's what I always thought too -- but I read an article last night that contracted that -- saying faster is "better" but that can't possibly be correct. I'm like you -- I use higher intensity not faster. Hope the Andrew drama is over - I always TRY to look at those situations as "well, he probaby learned a good lesson that should help him grow up a little more" and let it go. It's when those dramas start happening too often that I can't take it. I paid my Step Son's rent for 6 months last year cause I couldn't take him living in my house and causing so much drama. Now he's living with us again and has been okay for the most part -like Andrew, he has his moments.

Im still at work. It's really cold and windy here -- only 55 and rainy. Tomorrow is "tulip time" in Pella Iowa and we are planning to go to the parade -- it's fun - check it out on the internet -- just google, Tulip Time, Pella, IA and you'll see how neat it is. That's a town 20 miles from here.

Well, must get back to work.

Hugs to all.

Linda

Exercise:

You're all correct. Faster is more intense than slower when it comes to walking, walking on an incline is more intense than slower and depending on how much of an incline and how fast you're walking it, the incline is more intense than fast walking. But once you're used to it, like I'm used to climbing stairs at work, my heart rate doesn't go up that much and I can talk and not breathe fast. So it keeps me in shape but doesn't give me an intense workout anymore.

It is also true that you can walk longer and slower and eventually burn as many calories as walking fast for a shorter time. I was having too much hip pain so I slowed down my walk but walked just as far. Took longer but burned about as many calories.

Eventually, with all exercise, you're in such good shape that the exercise helps you maintain your weight and health but doesn't help you lose. You still just have to eat right and eat less. In addition, as you lose, you're carrying less weight so your muscles don't have to work as hard. With exercise you have to remember there's a law of diminishing returns.

I have no intension of stressing myself or my poor arthritic body by trying to do more than 1 hr. a day 4 or 5X a week, nor do I wish to increase the intensity of my exercise. A lot of arthritis and joint problems are made worse by repetitive motion. I do what hurts least.

My blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, stamina, and outlook are all improved by moderate exercise, but stressing over exercise is a big downer.

People can end up subsituting exercise addiction for food addiction and actually become bulimic. Exercise addiction is considered a form of bulimia. Exercise, like life, is about balance and moderation.

Eva, love the photos and the Ocotillo.

Janet, great job on handling Andrew. Panhandle. Love it. You made him solve his own problem. Bet he never gets caught without his credit card or enough gas for a long time. He knows you won't bail him out. Good for you.

Laura, Nelson and friends are just adorable and so are you. You light up your photos with your smile.

Laura K. You're handling your daughter exactly right. It's always a fine line between making mild suggestions and nagging. She'll figure it out. I was and always will be a procrastinator. I need the pressure of the last minute in order to be able to focus and get things done. However, my last minute is not as "last" as it used to be.

Julie, all my life, whenever someone has major physical problems that nobody seems to be able to diagnose or treat, people have gone to the mayo Clinic. Can you get yourself referred to a place like that?

Linda, all my life I've heard about the tulip festival in Pella, Iowa. They have similar festivals in Holland, MI. Both, of course, were mainly settled by Dutch people and I'm totally Dutch. I was raised Christian Reformed, and now attend a Reformed church and I have relatives in the Protestan Reformed church, all of which are mostly Dutch denominations.

I went to the Holland, MI parade once. That's about a 3 hr drive for me. I've always wanted to do the Pella, Iowa thing. Maybe someday. I live next to a town called South Holland, IL., also settled by a majority of Dutch people, and they used to do more with tulip festivals. Now, they're about 65 percent mostly black and some Latino. But a lot of people still have a lot of tulips. But no more parades and Klompen dancing (traditional dance done in wooden shoes). We can still get Dutch treats around here though. Dutch almond pastries (banket, Ollie Bollen, Ollie Kooken) and Cookies and peppermints and chocolates. Dutch peasoup is very good, especially when its made with metwurst, a Dutch sausage.

Well, need to do laundry and shop for appetizers to bring to my mom's tomorrow for Mother's Day.

Enjoy your day ladies.

Wow! Nobodies been on today hardly. You all must be busy with Mother's Day. I'm goin in a couple of hours to my mother's house and bringing food. My sister is bringing food. She and her husband and 3 kids are all going to be there and my three kids, their spouses, and children are going to be there. My sister and I also took my mom out for Indian food and then to a play. My 12 yr. old neice also went with. It was "The Little Princess" done by a Christian youth organization. Nice evening. I really like Indian food. Love curry.

Not much else to report. Hope your Mother's Day went well.

Happy Mother's Day Gang !!!

Well had a great time - think I wore candy out we shopped at this great mall on Friday got 2 dresses a pair of capri's and a 2 shrugs - 1 bra - Went to Pechange Casino Friday nite- omw it's as big as a casino in Vegas !!! Had dinner (cobb salad) the gambled a little - didn't win..

Oh ya messed up my car - backed up in a parking lot - went to turn - hadn't backed up far enough and ran over a curb - tore up underneath my front bumper pretty bad - it was hanging and scraping the ground - not the bumper itself but some plastic behind it..

Then Saturday went to Chrysler to see if they could jerri rig the bumper - I got duct tape - but it wouldn't really stick - so they rebuttoned some of the buttons that popped out and it's not draging anymore -

Than we hit old town (lots of antiques - shop- farmers market - places to eat etc) - had this GREAT Breakfast (more brunch cuz it was about 11ish) eggs, sausage & busicuts & gravy - omw the sausage and b&g were great - walked around for 5.5 hrs looking at all the stuff - bought another dress - some body butter, candle - Jerky - some great garlic olive oil and honey balsamic vinegar - went back to the room rested a little and changed went back to casino - had dinner 6 oz of bison burger (without the bun) just the patty & cheese and couple of onion rings - The place was so packed we could find the poker machines we play - so came back to the room Got up this am around 8 - and was home by 11:30..

Andrew - bought me lunch ;0).. Joseph and family sent cards - talked to them all after I got home..

Linda - Ya I hope you are right on learning something - he stuck close to home while I was gone - but he usually does when I leave town...

Eva - Hope you have a great time...

PJ- Nice to hear from you..

Washing clothes right now - really need to go to the store and get some lettuce so I can make a salad to use my new olive oil/vinegar on - but don't feel like getting dressed.

Confession - ate too many Cookies - and am going to have to sugar detox this coming week..

Cheri - I agree - exercise is exercise and good for you no matter what ...

Charlene - Yet those syrups should jazz up your shakes - Bet you didn't have shakes today ;0)

Everyone busy today - that is great.

Granddaughter & her husband and their son & daughter stopped by and visited for the afternoon. Very enjoyable and stress free.

Then another grandson came over to go to dinner with all of us and pick up his graduation check. He is difficult and argumentative.

dinner was at a bbq restaurant. I had burnt ends beef (no bun) with sauce and cole slaw - but could not keep it down. After very little, made a trip to restroom. Felt great once it was OUT.

I'm learning about my band. Same meal was fine before fill on Wednesday, but I seldom eat beef - only fish. Oh well..... learn as I go.

Carpets will be cleaned tomorrow. And then trip to gym.

Greetings from 35,000 feet in the air. I am back over US soil but still no where near home. I got out of Barcelona over 24 hours ago, flight was very long and late as they had to fly out of the way around the ash, then we got to NYC and my flight home was cancelled. DH had to go to ATL for work so I am flying to SLC to spend the night so as to not spend it alone in New York, I found that scary alone. I won't be home til noonish tomorrow and am exhausted, then when I get there I have so much to do. Our house is under contract, I have stuff to take care of on that, call mortgage companies, moving company, visit grandma, laundry and pack to go house hunting in SLC on Wed. We need to be out of our house by the 28th if this all goes through.

I have way too many pages to catch up on. I hope someone can catch me up. I missed ya all!

The cruise was wonderful, weather could've been better but not bad. I am curious to find out if I gained as i seemed to eat too much!

Lori, Welcome home, we missed you. Not too much to catch up on I think. Apples has been going to cabin every week and then home a few days to take care of her boys while they plant. Janet just returned from a weekend shopping trip with her friend, candy. Arlene has been shaking it up with sugar free syrups and losing good amounts of weight every week. Jodi's foster dog Boomer, was on the Today show -- we taped it hoping to see Jodi and Dassi, but they didn't put them on camera. Jodi got some new clothes from her Step Mom. Julie is suffering and hasn't been on much. Laura and family drove to NC to spend weekend with her folks. LauraK is back from graduation and is preparing to help her daughter move to Nevada next month. Joyce has been exercising and losing weight as well. Phyl has been meeting with a trainer and using her new gym. Eva went to her nephew's graduation this weekend (can't remember where but they flew). I have little news to report, much the same with me. Okay gang, that's all I can remember, someone else can take over and fill her in on what I've forgotten.

We went to the tulip time parade Saturday with GD and then she spent the night. It was cold and windy (had to wear winter coats and gloves at the parade.)

Hope you all had a great mother's day. I did -- I made homemade waffles for Breakfast (everyone's been hungry for them and they are easy, but I could only eat about 2 bites but that tasted great). Then I mostly just relaxed and tried to catch up on some tv watching.

Hope everyone has a great day, I gotta go get ready for work.

Linda

Thanks for the catchup Janet and Linda. I'm so sorry to hear Julie is still in pain.

Well my journey home started about 36 hours ago. I am now in the Salt Lake airport awaiting the final leg home. Just think if I was moved I'd have been home last night. I did get a hotel room last night for about 4 1/2 hours but slept about an hour but was nice to have a place to shower, etc. Then I have about 36 hours at home before I come back here to hopefully find me a house! Just talked to DD and seems she's not been feeling well. She went out with her DH and my son for DS's bday and was the designated driver so not even drinking and passed out 3 times in the club. The police wanted her to go to the ER but she did not, she's been fine since. then last night her DH got rear ended in his car, he's fine she said. I got an email from my mom wiht a list of things to do for Grandma. You know I do not mind taking care of my grandma at all. What I do mind is my mom telling me what to do from FL, she's not even here, I feel it's like she doesn't trust me or what I do isn't good enough. But that will be over soon.

I will check in when I can, glad to hear we have so many losers here!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
