Maybe gas? Dizziness?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else get that "pain-pressure" in the middle of the back, that eventually radiates to the diaphram and sometimes even up into the shoulders? It's that "trapped air" feeling you get after having laparoscopic surgery. I am at 3.8 cc's in a 4 cc band - but I have been for several months. The problem only started about a month ago. I take Gas-X. I don't know that it helps, but it doesn't seem to hurt!

Also, since September, I have been lightheaded off and on. I am positive it's not nutrition related. Lord knows I can and do eat more than I should.....not horribly, but enough where I have no nutritional deficiencies. Anyway, some days, it's really bad. Other days, I'm fine. It comes and goes. I have not fainted, but feel like I'm coming close. I have seen my primary doc about it, had a sinus x-ray, saw an ENT who says it's not related. I guess my next step is a neurologist. I WAS diagnosed wth hypothyroidism about a month ago. I was started on Synthroid, and my bloodwork that came back yesterday has me within normal limits. I know hypothyroidism CAN cause dizzines/light-headedness. Maybe I'm just not back to normal, yet, despite my TSH being normal?

Thanks!

I have terrible gas pain in my left shoulder and left side of my neck, but never in my back although I'm sure its more than possible....the body is a strange contraption. As for the dizziness, do you see an endocrinologist for your hypothyroidism? My mom has had hypothyroid for 25 years and the thyroid does so many strange things to the body. I'm sure the dizziness is related. See an endocrinologist to make sure all is well....they specialize in this kind of stuff.

I was dizzy after I was banded. It turned out that my blood pressure was too low. I quit taking my blood pressure pills and I was fine.

I also have pain in my left shoulder but not in my back.

I'm now in the throes for my second slipped band. Both times I went in due to intense back pain. It's right in the middle of my shoulder blades and can range from uncomfortable to excruciating. It usually starts about an hour after I eat and continues anywhere from 1-4 hours after. If it hadn't been for this pain, I would have never known about the slippages.

And I'm curious about the lightheadedness. I hadn't connected the two, but I have had somewhat frequent dizzy spells over the past several months. I wonder if they are connected?

Good luck.

Hi. I'm a new user/poster to this site. I've had my band since 2002; it was placed by Dr. Roberto Rumbaut in Mexico. I reached my goal weight in about a year (2003), and overall have had few problems (beyond PBing on occasion and one bout of reflux that a slight unfill remedied). I came here to see if anyone else has experienced this pain in the left shoulder (some type of referred pain probably), esp. this far out from surgery? It feels exactly like the gas pain in the same spot that I had for a couple of days after the surgery itself. I'm wondering if it's occurring because I'm eating or drinking too much or too fast and if anyone else has any ideas on how to prevent it. I've taken Gas X and sometimes it's worked, sometimes not. Every doctor I've asked (several) here in CT has no idea what the deal is and I think some of them think I'm hallucinating. (I wish!) It's gotten so bad a couple of times that it kept me up all night. If anyone has any experience with this, I'm all ears. Thank you.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
