MacM & wasa,

I do understand about the complexity of revision VS virgin sleeve surgeries.

I do think the comment about the coordinator wasn't necessary, though... that is purely subjective and not an objective statement. I don't feel that this is the appropriate place for comments like that.

No offense intended...

I have to say that I find it curious that even though I quoted the poster I was responding to and responding directly to their post you assumed I was referring to you and your post.

That speaks volumes.

The comment about coordinators was VERY necessary. Do you know that I have a coordinator threatening me right now? If I continue telling the truth about her surgeons she will come up with fake info about my own doc and slam dunk him on every band/sleeve/RNY/Revision forum on the internet?

Think about that one. What is ethical here?

My doc does things the right way, he is ethical, he follows the rules. But if I tell the TRUTH about other surgeons she will slam dunk my surgeon.

Again, what is ethical here? Sure, I could follow her around and post her name and history, but should I have to? I would like an honest answer to this.

WASA,

I'm not going to get into this further with you...

All I can suggest is that you speak to this person directly and try to work this out.

Have a great weekend, all...

I asked for an honest answer, I did not get that.

No, I will not do this via private email, public is good. I am good to go with public.

I did not respond to you, I did not make a mistake in who I was responding to. I quote posts for a reason, there is no communication error.

Cheers.

I've had both band and sleeve and the sleeve is 1000x better! ;o)

Thanks, WASa.......although I am curious regarding NASIALITE's comment.

Thanks, WASa.......although I am curious regarding NASIALITE's comment.

I can only assume the comment was based on stats and such.

With a band you have a stoma and everything you eat has to fit through that stoma or you get stuck. We don't have that, we just have a small stomach. You have to chew 10x better with a band, not as much with a sleeve. Fewer food limitations, better weight loss stats, faster weight loss, fewer long term complications, no maintenance, fewer future reops, large tablets are not a problem, etc.

So I don't think the person was trying to base their opinion on personal experience but standard differences in the procedures.

That's interesting.....I wonder why it wasn't a choice for me. I like the fact that there is not malabsorption, I am scared of that. Does your stomach ever stretch out, and if so, what is the treatment for that? It must be nice to not have to deal with taking meds; I get stuck on ibuprofen tabs and then wonder if my stomach is being eaten away.....

It's a choice for all of us. This is why research is so critical before WLS. Know ALL your options and know why you are choosing one procedure over another.

No, it doesn't stretch. They remove the elastic portion of your stomach and maintain the muscular portion. Muscle just doesn't stretch much.

I can take any tablet of any size. ;o)

When I was banded the long term stats of (US studies) band and sleeve were not out yet. We didn't hold a lot of hope for the sleeve. Turns out, the stats for sleeves are better than for bands. Far fewer long term complications, too.

Yes. My regret is that I got the band first.

I should have been sleeved first. It would have saved me about $12,5K and my sanity.

Hi Wasabb, about how much will it cost to go from band to sleeve in mexico.

Hi Wasabb, about how much will it cost to go from band to sleeve in mexico.

Depends on if the surgeon did your original surgery they usually give you a bit of a break. Otherwise $12,500.

Revisions are a LOT trickier to do than a virgin sleeve. Leak risks are x3 for a revision. So you really can't go to just anyone, you have to go to a revision surgeon so the cost is more. You need to be in a hospital and not a clinic for a revision, you need to have 3 leak tests, you need to be monitored closely. That really holds true for any sleeve or bypass but especially true for a revision.

Thank you, did Dr. Aceves do your band and sleeve. Is a revision doctor and doctor that does all three wls's.

Yep, he did my band and my revision.

A revision surgeon is someone who does a LOT of revisions and I"m not referring to port replacements. If you look on OH MD boards you'll see someone doing 1000 revisions. Those are not true revisions. Fixing a port is not a true revision although some doctors claim it to improve their stats. A revision surgeon is someone who revises you from one surgery type to another.

The best docs for revisions in MX are Rumbaut and Aceves.

And that is why Dr. Aceves will be doing my band to sleeve in the beginning of May! Yay! Gee it doesn't sound as cool as going on the sleeve wagon as the band wagon, but never the less, I am getting the sleeve and will never have to worry about getting a fill or an unfill ever again. Yay!

Like I told you, I'm going to make every effort to be there for you during your surgery. I need to get my 3 month post op barium swallow anyway! Better late than never. ;o)

Thank you. I know I will feel a lot better if you are there. I know in my heart this is the right thing for me long term, but it still freaks me out.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
