Can ANYONE eat pasta post-banding???

Recommended Posts

I need to take Calcium and a Multivitamin everyday.

The chewable multivitamin is ok, but I just can't ge the calcium chewables down. I gag on them and I have to take 4 of them to get all the calcium the doctor recommends.

Please tell me if you have tried any of the liquid calcium. I wonder how this tastes. I have to buy some tomorrow no matter what.

Tell me if these chewables bother you and how you get them down or if you have tried the liquid calcium.

I just started taking some that my doc recommended. Its not some they "peddle" in the office but he likes them and they are for WLS patients.

The Calcium tastes SO Good , they have a chocolate flavor that tastes like solid hot chocolate mix.

The Multivitamin is a strawberry flavor and they are great.

I take the Mulitband and the Calcium

I have trouble with regular Pasta, but ravioli and tortellini go down easy when I cut them small. I can have only 4 ravioli, or 8 tortellini when I eat them for dinner.

Why the chewable Calcium? I try to get in at least 2 cups of milk a day these days, and use childrens chewable Vitamins with Iron, I take 2 of them. Its cheaper than adult chewables or liquid.

In all honesty Childrens chewables just are not enough .

Or they wont be in the long run . Really why would they be enough NOW But they were not before being banded. Im not a big fan of childrens Vitamins , But that's my personal opinion . The personal trainer i was working with also was not and told me she would not recommend I stay on them long and my doc agreed !

Hi BayCity,

I add chicken usually. I love chicken! Im not really a huge beef lover. As much as I was addicted to Pasta before, but now I usually eat more of the chicken/veggies because I crave it more!

Your cravings will stop! Tracey

re: Calcium: current FDA guidelines suggest 1800 mg for child bearing age women....and that means some kind of supplement.

There's a wonderful apricot flavored powder with a little magnesium that mixes very well with liquids of your choice. Taken with a few tabs of hydrochloric acid it got rid of my muscle cramps and relaxed me enough to get a good nights sleep!!!

Thanks Jack , One of the reasons my doc said the flintstones were not enough was because they did not have enough Calcium in them .

Where did you get the powder you were talking about ? I wonder why so many docs recommend Flintstones ?

Make sure you can have ground beef on your "mushie" stage, I could not .

i just have to update you all!

it has taken months, and i still need at least one more fill, probably more, but i can honestly say...

i made a big bowl of my fave Pasta yesterday and...drumroll please...

only ate about 1/5 of it. it didn't taste as good as it used to, and i just got tired of eating it.

this did not happen to me until almost four months in...but it happened.

thanks again for all of you who told me that what i could eat wouldn't matter as much as it once did...i thought i was a failure, but i am starting to feel like a real bandster.

best to all on this board!

I have Pasta every now and then. It's not something I crave - I have no problem getting it down though...I just eat a LOT less of it. It used to be my staple

I love Pasta too and like the others if I take small bites and eat slow I don't PB but it does happen because I'm impatient and haven't caused enough self pain yet I guess. I do try to eat whole wheat pastas to add to the Protein. chicken gets me more than anything else (PB)

I eat whole grain Pasta, in small portions. I've have several foods, I can't tolerate such as bread, hamburger patties, steak, potatoes of any kind. But hey, those are the things that lead to me weighing almost 300 lbs. Good bye and good riddens.

Can someone please tell me what PBed means. I was just banded on May 7th and have not learned the lingo yet. Thank you,

Dori:confused2:

"PB" stands for "productive burping" ...aka, if something gets stuck, you'll throw it up. It's just a better way of saying "I threw it up"

It's not a good experience haha! but if your a bandster there's a good chance you will experience it

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
