I was banded on April 8 and have been doing fine. I have had some pain at the port site from time to time, but nothing constant. I do notice that there is a bulge or puffiness from the port incision to the my left side. Its soft. I can't feel my port unless I really push down. I had my first fill last Tuesday, and my doctor said that the pain might just have been that I twisted or turned a certain way, but he never addressed this puffiness. It doesn't hurt, its just puffy on one side and not on the other right above my waist.

Is this normal just because the port is under there? Does anyone else have anything like this?

Thanks.

Alice

I just commented on my left side this evening. It's actually quite pronounced on my left side. If I look down my stomach looks slanted.

I was banded in feb. and my port is very noticable. It feels and looks as if I have a rock under my skin. I also have quite a bit of pain.

I was banded on April 21st and I too noticed a slight bump on my left side where my port was, but as of now I don't see the slight bump any more just the hardest (like a rock ) just under the skin. It's kinda weird to feel that there, but have no soreness at all. I've been wondering if I'll always be able to feel that bump?

Can anybody tell me how to update my ticker?

I have a bulge on my left side by my port but its not my port.

its around where my incision for my port is. I Asked my doc about it , he said its the fat redistributing in my stomach , Its quite large looks like the size of a golf ball I think ? if you have one make sure its not a hernia fist but I know others who have it so I think its quite common . Mine is not hard !

Thanks for the input. I don't have a hard bulge like I think a hernia would be. Its kind of like a long spare tire of fat on one side instead of both. I would have to press down really deep to feel the port which I don't care to do. I guess everyone's port site is a little unique.

Thanks again.

Are you SURE its where your port is ?

I thought at first my port was right where my incision was ( My largest incision ) and its not , its lower. But the bulge is just a wee bit lower than the port incision .

Also where the port incision is is a little hard and that's from scar tissue.

Does that make sense ?

My "Bulge " Does not go all the way around its just in one area.

Do you want me to take a picture ?

Its definitely my port site. When I had my fill on Tuesday, the needle wen right into the middle of the incision. So far its been 7 weeks and there is no hardness by my incision or around it. I have only lost 23 lbs so there is still lots of tummy fat there, so it would be hard to see in a picture.

Aww your only 7 weeks out of surgery ?

Its probably just Swelling still from surgery . Mine is from the loss of fat around my stomach . It looks very odd .

Sorry i missed your 7 weeks out . The port site takes the longest to heal .

So i dont think its anything unusual .

OHH thanks , Your off to a great start !

your doing awesome so far. I am having some scale issues right now , I have yet to hit a plateau and I am 5 pds away from 100 lbs lost and want to get there before my 1 yr mark and NOW ive either hit a plateau or something ?

It is about that TOM so im hoping once that's over my scale moves. I usually either gain or stop losing around that time.

I wanted to be at goal by July , my 1 yr mark but I dont think that's gonna happen .

Your gonna be great Alice ! your off to a great start

I have the same issue. My port bulges out quite a bit, I would say almost half an inch. I can feel it easily and clearly see it. I can even see the thin wire trailing away from it toward the band. I'm only a few days post op, so please tell me that this is normal, and that it'll eventually heal! It's getting me really concerned.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
