Suggestions Please On Best Tasting Protein Shakes

Recommended Posts

My dr suggested the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. It all seems so confusing...I guess the Unjury has the best Protein from what I've read. I guess if I dont like it, I'll put it next to every other protein-weight-loss-low-carb blah blah blah in my pantry & try something else. My surgery date is July 15th & I am SO READY! Good luck with yours!

OMG this made me laugh.... I too have a pantry full of low-carb, low-fat, low-calorie blah blah blah.

I have never tried one that I could drink. I left my lunch at home the other day when I went on an excursion with my daughter's class, and had to buy something quickly in a milk bar (convenience store). I bought a Protein shake for lack of any suitable alternative, took one sip and threw it out. They ALL have that horrid grainy soy taste to me.

I can actually drink Optifast and find it OK, it doesnt have that funny taste/texture

I like to take a can of the Atkins Advantage and a scoop of unjury and blend them together. Best of all worlds, low carb, high Protein and low fat and depending on your mix pretty darn tasty...my favorite Unjury/Atkins mix in chocolate and chocolate with ice blended together sometimes with a dash of cinamon. Find one that you like, you'll be having them for the rest of your life!

I really like the Kashi Go Lean chocolate shake powder blended with ice cubes, skim milk and a banana. Makes a lot and I drank some leftovers the next morning and it still tasted good. In the Health food section of local grocery store.

Look for a brand that is low in sugar, contains no aspartame but still tastes good. You can also mix and make your own recipes of Protein Drink according to your taste. Try to get the daily intake of Protein from solid food and a good whey Protein Powder. One can try Cytosport Protein Pure Performance Drink; it was suggested to my friend by Dr. Nilesh Patel after her surgery from Lap Band Austin

hi everyone. i am on the preop diet now. The best drinks I have tasted are made by Worldwide Protein. They are premixed, in a can and really taste pretty good. I buy them at Trader Joes, but I am sure if you google the brand name, you can find other places to get them. I have been alternating the drinks with Dannon lite and fit yogurt once or twice a day and at night I mixed up one with a banana and it's delicious and filling. My surgery date is 4/15/09 but I wasn't as strict on my 6 month diet as I should have been, so I am extremely restricted now. My surgeon will not perform the banding if you haven't lost the weight he told you to in the beginning. Thank goodness the shakes are as tastey as they are! Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Thanks for posting that info - it is very helpful! I'm sure I'll be receiving more detailed info on my pre-op diet within the next couple weeks (surgery is targeted for May), but it is really helpful to have this info in advance so I can start taste-testing Protein Shakes and bars.

Whatever you choose ... doctors & dietitians recently have upped the requirements for best nutrition. shakes should contain at least 20 mg of Isolate Protein and less than 9 of sugar per serving.

Good morning everyone!

I am still waiting to hear whether or not my insurance approved my banding. If so, I wil be going in late June *fingers crossed*

I do have a pretty good suggestion regarding shakes.< /p>

Try the Medifast pudding...add a bunch of ice into the blender (with pudding mix) a touch of Water and blend.

(works really wekk with the magic bullet)

It's like a yummy slushy. Great to eat with a spoon.

You can add a dash of spenda if you accidentaly watered it down.

Try it!

I have tried so many different types of Protein Drinks, I cant even remember them all. I wanted to be prepared for my surgery which is on june 22. I finally got some ideas from my doctors office. I use Unjury(which I hated before) I mix 1 scoop with 8 ounces of Water, 1 1/2 tablespoons of International swiss mocha(sugar free) and 2 drops of peppermint extract. I cant smell the Protein in it and it tastes like a coffee latte. It has just a hint of coffee flavor, which is good becaues i am not a coffee drinker. It is so good i cant wait to drink mine. I never thought I would say that. I put all of that in my rocket(blender) with a few ice cubes and drink away. It has 20 grams of protein and 130 calories...Good luck

Irish, two things, first, uber gratz on your progress! So thrilled for you!

Second, wow! That's an awful lot of carbs! 32g, with 23g sugar. Yikes. I'm a diabetic and though I love Kashi (GoLean cereal), I've never tried any of their shakes. That just seem a little high in carbs, even with 7 g Fiber. Do you know if it spikes your glucose?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
